6.7 to a 7.3

I just sold my 2011 6.7 dually because my boat sits on a lift at the lake and I don't need it to travel with, but still needed a big truck to pull the boat when needed. I picked up a very nice no rust 2000 f 250 7.3 but I am spoiled to the power of the 6.7. I have been told you can really wake the 7.3's up with out killing them. Anybody had good reliable results for mild tunes with the 7.3 to make it closer to the power of a 6.7?

It's hard to compare the two mostly because of the transmissions behind them. The newer transmissions and the rpm capabilities of the newer diesels are nice. The 7.3 will wakeup a bit with an exhaust, intake, and a tuner. After those mods it gets a little more involved for bigger power.

Leave it alone and enjoy it for several hundred thousand miles. I have 2 now, had 4 in total over the years, over 500k miles in total no major issues. My 2000 dually has a dp tuner 6 position in it, I just leave it on the 50hp tow tune, and have a big wix air filter on it. 16 mpg hwy, 11 towing.
Btw my first one had everything, banks inter cooler, water meth inj, n20, injectors, turbo, etc. never a reliability issue under 500hp, but now after building several different big power diesels I enjoy the easy turn key no worries lol

go to riffraffdiesel.com they can get you your best bang for a buck..like mentioned a simple 80 hp chip and exhaust is all you really need..spend the extra and go for the SS exhaust..

I did a Tony wildman 6 position chip, garret Gt40turbo, 200 over 100 injectors by full force, modified hpop, 4" down tube, 5"exhaust, intake kit, 6.0 trans cooler, deeper trans pan, trans go shift kit, tripple billet converter, hardened trans shaft and high pressure pump in trans, lift pump at tank to force feed it the fuel, the in fuel pick up tank modification. Ran like a hooker to a 50 dollar blow job!

The Tony wildman chip and trans go kit with intake and exhaust woke my second one up.. Way better than a he off shelf crap of bully dog banks etc...

I just went from 7.3 to 6.7 and totally agree with you, there is a big power difference. Really like how quiet the new engine is. Nothing like the 7.3 turbo whistle though.

remember you are trying to hot rod a 16 year old truck.......I'd leave it stock and enjoy it and at this point it probably preserves the resale value being stock

Thanks for the responses guys, I have been swamped at work and have not been able to get back on here. Since then I have put a 4" magnaflow exhaust on it and have decided on a superchip tuner. A good diesel mechanic friend of mine told me that's all it would need for a little more reliable power without hurting it. I won't be using it that much but I do like the old school diesel so far!!

Agree the tranny is the weak link. About 50 hp tune is all i would dare and even then i would put a temp gauge on it....

I have a 2001 F350 with the 7.3 which I had a Edge system on it for about 5 years and up until about three years ago. Worked good. Than it just seemed like no matter how you set it up there just wasn't any difference in performance. So I just removed it. My 2008 6.4 runs hard enough for me. I am in agreement with Unlimited JD. Leave it alone and drive it forever. I now have over 300000 miles with towing thrown in there. Ya the tranny blew on the boat ramp but it was already leaking and ceramic brakes are a great add-on. Just enjoy your new 15 year old truck. I do.

460,000 7.3 original tranny. Change fluid like they tell you and pull boat, skid steers and farm equipment. Plus a plow truck. Hope my 6.7 is as good to me as 7.3.
