Excursion hunters...

This is a rare example of a virtually impossible to find vehicle. It's being sold by a fellow boater in our community; albeit I have no personal interest in it.

Loaded
Lariat
Leather
4x4
7.3L PSD
Unmolested (!)
81,000 miles

They don't come any better than that.
Just passing along as this is a really rare find.

Wow! A real beauty! If I didnt already have the identical vehicle I would have already put a deposit on this one! Looks like someone is in store for a rare find.....nice of you to post.

Nice!!! I have the same one but with the V10. Mine only has 46000 miles

Great Vehicle

Wow! That's more than I spent for my 2000 4x4 Limited PSD X when I bought it in 2002 with 43,000 miles. It now has 253,000 miles, and I wonder what it's value is today. Not that there's anything out there to replace it, darn it.

If no rust, 4x4, and interior is decent, around $10k

Drock78 06-15-2015 03:24 AM

not worth 25k but DEFINITELY worth more than 10K! LOL.

Dd24skater 06-15-2015 06:35 AM

Love my 02 7.3 Excursion.....Price is high but not stupid

Quinlan 06-15-2015 07:59 AM

Especially since that vehicle new was less than 40K.......14 years ago!

While clean/low mileage is rare, it isn't "priceless!"

MrCIG 06-15-2015 06:01 PM

The sticker on my 2000 with a V10 was 41k. If I remember the Diesel was a 7k adder

ICDEDPPL 06-15-2015 06:56 PM

Sold mine with 100K for $17k couple years ago

79formula 06-15-2015 09:12 PM

If you want a Ford diesel and cant afford a 6.7, the 7.3 is your only option. My 7.3 crew cab short bed has 265k on it. Only thing worn is the steering wheel. It would take $20k for me to think about selling it.

turbo rr 06-15-2015 09:42 PM

Is that how much those trucks command realistically?

wannabe 06-16-2015 07:19 AM

You can find a clean Suburban 2500 with the 8.1 for 18k all day long...................

I had one before buying a 7.3 Excursion. The Suburban was a great vehicle, gas mileage was terrible. Mine had the LT auto ride, when towing it would auto. level out, very nice feature. Nice vehicle but doesn't compare to the Excursion in heavy duty situations, the Excursion is more like a truck and tows better with heavy weight and long loads. I put 10 of thousands of miles on both and would own either one depending on what I was pulling.

Jupiter Sunsation 06-16-2015 08:12 AM

A guy in my town cut the rear open on an Excursion so it is now a crew cab with a small open bed......truck is lifted, painted and the metal work is pretty straight.....looks good but it throws you off a bit when you see it as it is too short for a crew cab pickup and the lack of a bed gap tells you something is wrong but when you see the excursion tailgate you realize what it was.

According to a Car and Driver article from that era the diesel was 4K extra over the V10. My buddy bought a leftover 2003 Eddie Bauer brand new for almost 10K off sticker, he still drives it today (160K+) miles on it and the truck is flawless with the exception of the seat bottoms/armrests. His is dark green and definitely has the "family truckster" look which had to have hurt the saleability back when it was new as it sat on the lot over a year. His is is also 2WD which limits the buyers but 4WD isn't really required in Florida for soccer mom duty!

http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...t-drive-review

The Excursion goes on sale as we speak, offered in two trim levels, XLT and the leather-lined Limited--there's no Eddie Bauer edition, at least for now. Base prices range from $34,135 for the two-wheel-drive, 5.4-liter XLT version to $44,885 for a four-wheel-drive Limited turbo-diesel. XLT four-wheel-drivers start at $37,450. The V-10 Limited with four-wheel drive, our primary subject during this preview, starts at $40,880

Same idea as an Avalanche?

Neverfastenuf 06-16-2015 12:02 PM

Bought my 2000 7.3 Eddie Bauer Excursion new for $42000. Sticker was $47995.00. Sold it last year with 79K miles on it for 20k. Put it on Craigs list and it sold the first day. Guy flew up from Texas with cash. All depends on who wants one bad enough. A treasure to one is junk to another.

What mpg did you get with the Excursion, towing and non towing?

Thanks,

I bought another 2004 - 2500 suburban 4x4 with 62k and 8.1L for $14,900 two years ago. Looked at excursions then again and went with the burb. Not the same, I agree but much more economical. Tows my 10,000 lb travel trailer just fine at 7-8 mpg and gets 14 on highway. That savings will buy a lot of gas and no diesel maintenance! At the time, a comparable excursion was at least $10k more, just couldn't swallow it for how well my other 2004 8.1L is doing.

It is a beautiful looking truck though!

9-10 towing, 14-16 all situations could pull a 17/18 if driving light footed. My 8.1 a little less towing and never saw better than 16 averaged 13, the problem was around town really bad single digit mileage with the Burb. Going up the same boat ramps with the same boat, I preffered the Excursion 7.3. Traveling over distance on a highway with the same boat, the Excursion is planted and more controlled but the Burb rode better. Around town, the Burb is more agile and user friendly. Neither one required expensive repairs while I owned them. The Ford had leaks and the Chevy electrical issues. Fix one problem another starts, both brands not immune to issues. In the end I prefer the diesel, but both did the job.

I had airbags on my 2500 Avalanche (same as the Suburban) and I never felt the vehicle was overmatched by the boat (11,000 lbs). Gas mileage while pulling was not great- 9 mpg. But really I dont believe these people who claim they get 16 mpg pulling a 12000 lb go fast- I think the only way that would happen is if they lassoed a semi and towed behind one....

cagedlx 06-17-2015 02:55 PM

My uncle has a 2000 with 476k! They have a running bet about it rolling over to 500k. I will without a doubt. If you walked by it in a parking lot you would think it had less then 100k on it. Still running the factory engine and tranny.

I agree on mileage claims while pulling, there are inflated claims.

I found the suspension and shorter wheel base to be the downside of the X when towing. The school bus sounding Diesel was loud .

1 ton superduty truck springs fit right on the back of the X, only problem is they ride a little high in the rear with no load on.

ICDEDPPL 06-18-2015 06:12 PM

I added Koni adjustable shocks all around, rear sway bar, 1500lbs add-a leaf and had air bags. With a 33 outlaw it was ok. 38cig maybe on short drives ok. Long drives I felt like I just ran a marathon.

I agree, the short wheelbase was tiresome. I had Firestone airbags and Hellwig sway bar with Michelin tires. I thought it towed good until I switched to a 2012 F350 6.7 King Ranch CC, SRW, long bed. Night and day difference. I do miss the whistle of the 7.3 turbo....maybe not.

Reliable, yes. Make sure exhaust manifold studs have been done. Spark plugs can break off too. I towed my 342 with an f350 drw v10 with 100k miles. Towed alright. Could have used more torque on some hills around here.

m&rautosales 06-26-2015 02:44 PM

This Excursion SOLD within 1 week of being listed for the full $25999 asking price, I had calls from over 1000 miles away on it. This is the 3rd clean 7.3 Diesel Excursion under 100k mi that I have retailed in 2015 over $25k. The other 2 had owners that traveled 6-800 miles to buy from me. This is what I do for a living. This black 2002 got 21.5 MPG on the highway with cruise set at 77mph and had a OEM Ford towing capacity of 12500lbs. NOTHING on the market compares to a Diesel excursion for room, mileage and towing. I priced it to sell and it did.... www.mandr4x4.com

That's very very impressive milage from a 7.3. As a 7.3 PSD Excursion owner, I'm thrilled with the prices you're getting.
