Have not used Dorman brake line kits, but beware, most of Dorman's stuff is from China.

The AcDelco kits can be had on Amazon for $50-$70. The lines are nylon coated.

Just so you know, ACDelcop is partnered with Amazon...so says ACDelco themselves. Meaning, they AcDelco supplies Amazon with AcDelco parts.

While you are under there and hve things apart, take a good luck at the fuel lines.

Thanks everyone. I called ClassicTube.com and went with a kit direct from them that includes flex hoses for a shade over $400. They gave me a military discount over the phone which won my business. I plan to keep this one a long while.

Don't count on all the classic tube stuff fitting first time around. You might luck out but make sure you have a plan B.

I've done all lines on all my vehicles with classic tube lines, but I live close enough to them that returning and exchanging isn't in issue. 2 of my vehicles I removed the lines in one piece and had them duplicate them, which turned out perfect. Their off the shelf lines for the 2 Chevy trucks were problematic.

Notice all that moisture on the rear differential? That's brake fluid; along with having sprayed all under the bed, muffler, rear end, and driveshaft. (Hot brake fluid STINKS like hell BTW.)

I was towing some friends' boat home this evening behind my 2003 Chevy 2500HD. I was well within towing specs, as the towed load is probably 5000 lbs, or so.

But I ended up breaking a brake line on the truck.
Guess what kind of brakes the trailer has...
...Yep, surge/hydraulic.

Remember, these trailer brakes do NOT work AT ALL when you can't brake the truck.

We crept home about 10 miles or so without incident, but that was AFTER I knew the brake line broke just after pulling out of the ramp.
Thank goodness for:
E-brake that works well.
Allison transmission that downshifts for engine braking.
A little bit of front brakes that were enough to stop the truck ONLY when I was creeping up to the two stoplights on the trip home...
...after I used the E-brake to get down under 5mph and took the truck out of gear. (Didn't want to seize E-brake bringing rig to full stop with such.)

i do them all the time on gm trucks..you may as well do the one that goes in between the gastank and the frame as well because it will blow..that one usually goes first..

i never sawa recall on the frames..they were buying back the trucks at 1.5 times the blue book value..my buddy got a check as well as a few other friends..

That was the Tacoma's. The Tundra's got frames.
Toyota stepped up big time. Chevy has a worse problem - as far as what we see.
And yes, same experience here, on the Chevy trucks, the rear line going past the gas tank is pretty always first.

96-2000 Tacomas were bought back at 1.5 times value
01-04 Tacomas are getting frames replaced under program
02--06 Tundras are getting frames replaced under program
05 up Tacomas are getting frames replaced on a case by case basis

Near as I can tell Toyota has not done anything to cure their frame rot problems, in my opinion they are the worst of all the trucks. At least Toyota has stepped up for the owners. I probably replaced 50 frames over the course of 2 years at Toyota, it certainly was a complete repair for owners of those trucks.
