Heavy Duty Winch
I want to replace the electric winch that came on my trailer with a hand crank. Any suggestions on brands, capacity, strap vs. cable etc. would be appreciated.
Boat weighs about 11,000 #'s Thanks |
Your electric winch does not have a place for a handle? I would not want a strap for winching a 11000 boat on a trailer.

1) No winch is rated for 11,000 lbs. Remember, you are not lifting the boat with the winch. You are just dragging it.
2) Your winch strap or cable should never be your sole/primary way of holding the bow of your boat to the trailer. You need to have straps or at a minimum safety chain(s). 3) Myco usually ships a Fulton on their trailers. ----This is pretty much the strongest boat trailer winch you fill find: http://www.etrailer.com/Winches/Fulton/FT37000301.html 4) I have used this winch on a friend's setup, about same weight as my boat (10,000 lbs) and I likely going to invest in one for myself: http://www.ebay.com/itm/FULTON-FW320...item339707e872 |
Thanks, looks like Fulton is the most popular. I do have a heavy safety chain and an extra strap for the road. I mention the weight for a reference so I get the right size winch. I also noticed that the goose neck with the winch slides up to change the angle. I was going to try raising it about 10" to see if it helps. Also it doesn't seem to be geared well enough for the handle to help for the last 2 ft. Some of our ramps over here are steeper then they need to be, that doesn't help.

what kind of electric winch do you have now and why do you want to replace it?
|
It's a Strong Arm TW 4000. This is my first electric winch. It doesn't seem to want to draw the boat up the last couple of feet. I just raised the goose neck up to see if that may help. Hope to try it again soon.
