Pulling a Baja 29 outlaw with a 2007 dodge 1500

K so here's the story. I'm buying a 29 outlaw with twin 6.2s, I don't have the lift yet so I was going to pull it home (40 miles) from the lake of the ozarks to Jefferson City. The trucks tow rating is 7500 pounds so I know I'll be pushing it. Curious to hear some options or if anyone els is pulling something similar?

Long term, it's not enough truck. 1 trip: I'd probably do it, but I'd be ridiculously overly cautious. It would be better if you borrowed a 3/4 ton truck though.
I'm going to speculate the trailer has surge brakes. If you get into any kind of jam & jack-knife, it's all over.
Will your insurance cover you if you are over your vehicle's capacity ratings?

FWIW, you are likely going to be 9000 lbs or so; plus fuel is 6 lbs/gallon and all the other stuff in the boat.

How much would it cost to have someone with the right truck pull it 40 miles?
This is a new (to you) boat, might be cheap piece of mind to have it towed by a licensed transporter with full insurance.

The odds of a mishap should you tow it yourself, may be very slim but if something goes wrong, you're in a whole world of pain. I would get a price to have it towed first, then make a decision, you may be pleasantly surprised.

You might be able to get the seller to deliver it to Jeff City for you. Heck, folks at the lake are always heading for Jeff or Columbia for something.

If nothing else works, I'm often in the area running between our farm north of Jeff and the lake. I'll help you out if schedules allow, and you don't want to use your half ton truck. That truck, btw, will probably do just fine pulling your boat. But it is technically over it's ratings.

This is what you need........................ like others have said, you don't want to pile up ur new toy, borrow a truck that can handle it easily

You should be ok towing it. Just take it slow and make sure the trailer brakes are working properly.

Thank you for all the feedback and help. I decided to have a buddy help me with his Duramax when I pull it back to Jeff just to be on the safe side.

good call. My 29 was close to 10K on trailer.
