2015 Duramax Vs 2016 Duramax ?

What is everyone hearing about upcoming changes. Time for a new truck and want to know if I should go with a 15, or wait for the 16's?

snapmorgan 10-29-2015 03:09 PM

The 15's have 100K mile warranty, the 16's are going down to 60K.

Wow that sucks. I put 150k on my 2001 without changing anything but brakes. After 160 had to do ball joints..... My first brake changes was 80k

KevD815 10-29-2015 09:44 PM

Are they really going to a 60k warranty? That sucks, maybe i should go find a last minute 2015. I hear the 2017 duramax is getting some big fuel system changes. Even higher voltage piezo injectors and rail pressures.

Flightplan 10-29-2015 09:47 PM

The 2016 is expected to build 450-500 hp with 855-900 ft/lb torque.

The 2015 is 370hp with 765ft/lb torque.

Those are impressive numbers. I would think mileage would take a nose dive when you stick your foot into it. More power = more fuel.

bajaholic 10-30-2015 09:34 AM

I traded my 13 in for the 15, 4 months ago, I already have 42K miles. on the new one. The 15 is night and day different over the 13. It pull everything great (power wise) and I am getting 8.5-11.5 when pulling, depending on the type and size of boat, and generally 17.8-18.2 when empty.

The warranty is just numbers. The bumper to bumper has always been 36K so you would want to buy the extended warranty anyways, the only real difference is how many miles vs how many years, I went with 150K miles, 24 months. It was less cost than the 125K miles 5 years.

The power of the truck has never been an issue in my opinion, but the trucks need larger brakes and air ride suspension to bring them to the next level. Take the 3500 and make it a 4500 or 5500 with the bigger breaks would be a HUGE upgrade to me! "They" keep saying it is coming, but so far..... Nothing...

I do miss my Kodiaks!

I put 110K on my '08 without a single problem (knock on wood). I also have 100K on my 6" Fabtech Lift Kit with no issues other than 2 destroyed u-joints. I did drive the '15 and was impressed with the power and the refinement of the truck. The cab is so quiet you can't even tell you're in a diesel!

The change is going to be 2017 MY. It may be out in 2016. Current power is 397 HP 765 TQ. It will pull a house down.

Yeah since Ford has a 60K powertrain warranty they simply matched their competitor.

Flightplan 11-09-2015 11:34 AM

Well, here it is. 397hp w/ 765ft/lbs torque

The duramax itself will have a 100k mile warranty still but the gas engines are now 60k. 2017 is when the next gen duramax will come out. Rumors on some of the forums by reputable people are 900-950ftlb. They need to do something big as ford and dodge have had the edge on them in the numbers game for awhile. Hopefully the back and forth is about topped out.

I hope to be picking up a 2015 2500 Duramax Denali tomorrow. I'll look at the 16's while I'm there.

ROB FREEMAN 11-26-2015 09:43 PM

I'm buying a new 17 either ford or Chevy. Both are sweet trucks. My 15 has 6 k and, away for winter. Leaning towards the new ford. But who knows. This is my third 15 this year and everyone was a ***** to get aligned with a 6 inch lift installed. One had a 7 inch bds lift. Very nice trucks. Fords and straight axels just seam to go down the road straiter it ,seams to me. I'm just fussy though.

drejustice 11-30-2015 01:04 PM

There are some VERY nice deals being had on the remaining 15's since 16s are now on the lots and the end of year is creeping up. I scored a new 15 for about 20% below sticker.

What are you guys paying out the door for these sweet 2015 Duramax's if you don't mind me asking,

frickstyle 12-01-2015 03:20 PM

Going to the dealer tonight to find out on trade-in 2013 3500 Denali for a 2015

Will post what he offers me and what the sell price on a '15 would be

KevD815 12-01-2015 07:20 PM

Best prices i found were $42,000 for a regular cab work truck and $46,000 for a crew cab long bed work truck. But that was last spring. All the 15's are gone locally and 16's are priced high at the moment. Gotta wait till the snow starts flyin' and the dealers want them out of their lots i guess.

KevD815 12-01-2015 07:20 PM

And yes I understand that I'm probably the only guy on here that wants a work truck!

Just had a 2500 fully loaded Denali Duramax built for my dad. MSRP was $69k but paid $56k. We buy our work vehicles through Enterprise and with their buying power, they get extremely good pricing.

That truck makes you boat look too small! :D

When it pulled a 47 GTX it looked just about perfect!
