I run service trucks and run arounds from 5500 to 1500/150s for years. We are and have been using Dodge since 2000. Tried a few fords up until 05. Ford = Gas engines, made noise, coolant leaks in aluminum heads, coil problems, Ford Diesel = simple they haven't made a good one sine the 7.3
Chevys = They are nice and plush, ride soft, brakes suck, windows rattle and become very slow,
Dodge= is the least amount of problems. No real complaints in 10+ years. Our diesels have had a few issues. And I run a 2500 with a 6.4 hemi that tows awesome. and they always had and have the best deals.

A little word to the wise....id avoid a true used car lot... there source of inventory is generally auction's... that would be the dumping ground for mainstream dealership's... when they find there trade in's have so many issue's that the cost of repair exceed's the value...that is making the truck unmarketable... and run from the navi.... run joey run.

30 yr ford salesperson.

If a newer (2007+) Tundra would tow 12,000+ legally, I'd own one in a heartbeat. They are fantastic trucks.

With the exception of the frame needing replaced, terrible fuel economy, and they look like an offspring of a transformer having sex with Shrek.

I don't think that any of those are issues with the 2007+ trucks. The first generation Tundra was just a facelift of that POS T100. The frame issues were only on those early (pre-2003) trucks and the Tacos/older small trucks..

But the newer Tundras with the 5.7L V8 are awesome. I could not believe how much I liked it when I test drove them. As a matter of fact, they are more American than some of the others as they are built in Texas. The sales guy even tried to convince me that he tows 13,000 lbs. with his personal truck with no issues; but I was concerned he went by "4bus" on the forums. :D There is a lifted extended cab, long bed at the Toyota dealer near me now, and I mad-dog it each time I drive by.

The frames might not junk by now, but im not 100% on that. But the fuel mileage is around 12 UNLOADED in the city from what people have said that own them. Which means when towing 6K+ pounds that thing is going to get 10-12 on the highway...and you still have a 1/2 ton truck.

Unfortunately I agree about it being the most American made.

I had an 11 crew max 4wd. Had drive shaft issues. Best I ever saw empty on flat highway driving like am old lady was 15 mpg. 8-10 around town. But it would tow amazing. put 38 k on it, sold it 14 months later for 1000.00 less than I paid. Not bad but I did spend roughly 10k on fuel during that time!

anyone here have experience with 2005 excursion with ford 6.0 diesel.
140,000 miles asking $9,000
Good deal ? Good engine ? or stay awaaaay ?

if you buy a 6.0 be prepared to spend about 4k for the egr cooler delete and head bolt replacement, also knock out the water pump and power steering hoses at the same time, then you have a reliable tune able engine.

I had a Landcruiser that the axles actually rusted out on, the housing and all associated bracketry literally rotted away. Funny thing is this was at 70K miles and the body and interior were mint not a spek of rust anywhere other then frame and axles. It was a 99, ran great though . . . .

This is pretty good stuff and accurate for the most part in a attempt to save the op from immenent doom. My summary thus ,for him , dont buy a navigator ,dont buy any land rover, dont buy a ford diesel(even with the IH 7.3), unless the local ford store actually still has a decent ford tech.
The silverado with awd and 410s pre vcm is a good value
the dodge cummins is good, the rest of the truck stastisticaly will fall apart around it, can be handled by the savy d.i.y.er though. Even the diesel stuff is easy on those.
The 7.3 injectors ,injector cups ,wiring, oil leaks can make many peps feel good about that 1.60 a gallon gas he have going on now
