might not be that bad with electric brakes , good brake controller , brakes on 4 or 6 wheels , we pull lot weight at hwy speeds w 8 wheel brakes on trailer / surge brakes are not real brakes IMHO

Florida Marine Patrol.

I'm towing my 255 Formula with twin SBC's/Bravo's...I figure 7500# full gas/water tank & gear gross. My 2016 Yukon with Max Tow (8500# towing capacity) does a great job. Boat sits on an aluminum twin torsion axle/4 wheel disc trailer that is rated at 10,400#.

If you have good trailer brakes your pick up is a great package for Florida Towing. But like me...in the mountains along the East Coast of the US...we would both feel better with a 3/4 ton Diesel.

You and I aren't even close to the edge in reality.

When the guy can to pick up is new/ my old boat that weighed 11,000lbs on the trailer. Thankfully he came with enough truck a Gas 2015 chevy 2500, but his 2" reciver and 2 5/16 ball was only rated for 6000lbs. This after we had a conversation about how much the boat weighed. I couldn't in good conscience let him leave that way, my enemies have kids that live by me. So I gave him my 16,000lb one. The scary part was he didn't really understand what the issue was.

^ that's scary. But a '15 2500 only came with a 6K receiver? That's messed up. My 1500's is rated higher than that. I don't know what the hitch is rated for but there is a sticker on it that states 9,600 which matches the Owner's manual rating. My max tow version of my truck is rated for 11,600 +/-, same hitch etc. 3.73's, larger radiator and heavier rear leafs and some heavier shocks are the differences on the trucks.

^Ah yes. That makes much more sense. Yeah the older, more common ball mounts, insert hitch portion, were rated for 6K. I remember that. Late 90's early 2000's. That's when most 1/2 ton's maxed out at 6K also for tow ratings. I remember towing a 18' stingray boat with a i-4 merc I/O. Dad's 99 F150 topped out at 5,XXX tow rating. Hitch insert was rated at 6k. My tri-ball pintle hitch ball is stamped 10,000.

Scariest I saw was a 1500 suburban towing a back hoe on a trailer on I 10 in Florida. The rear bumper was almost on the ground.

I try to stress to everybody that its better to be over equipped for towing than risking it. I have a 03 Ram Diesel with beefed up suspension and 15k Tow hitch/ball combo. My trailer is rated at 13k max. With the 36 Outlaw sitting on it I am just under that amount.

There are two reasons to stress over doing the tow vehicle. One, if you were to get in an accident with somebody because you lost control and they were hurt or killed, it will be with you the rest of your life. Two, if involved in an accident and you are under rated, your insurance carrier will deny the claim in a heartbeat, leaving you with the costs...
