All I need is Trailer! |
OK I'm going regret posting this
I live in Northern Indiana I'm looking for a 2500 GMC Diesel, Auto Trans, 4WD, Extended Cab, Short Bed. White with Gray would be preferred. Non Smoker and no accidents My truck is NOT a daily driver and sites in the garage most of the time but I need something a little bigger to comfortably pull our boat. I drove a Dodge a couple of days ago that on paper met my criteria - it a 197k. The cab was a pit, torn seats and just filthy-- Not going there I would like to keep the price around the $20K Any leads? Thank you 3pointstar |
After looking at all of these posts and the prices I know I am selling my 2010 F-350 FX4 Dually and getting a FL M2 or a 650. Jesus these new trucks are crazy $$$.

this is a great thread because I'm contemplating the same thing. I currently have a '08 Silverado 2500 Diesel. It has a 6" lift and 35" tires. After 8 years driving this, I'm done with the lifted truck thing. I don't use it as a daily driver anymore and it has gotten to the point where I really don't like driving it. So thinking about trading it and my little car in for a new 2500 Silverado. I'd love another Duramax but the cost is just hard to justify. I'm only towing 8500 lbs. and I only do 1 long trip per year. Been pricing a gasser. The issue right now is, there is very little inventory on the ground. The Silverado 2500 is hard to find right now. I haven't found one to even test drive!

Hey MonkeySea2, In my experience, diesel will return a lot of the extra cost at future trade or sale. Stuff is getting crazy though, My 2016 cost 28K more than my first house!

We got 1 new '17 GMC diesel in SRW about 2 weeks ago. My buddy ordered a new '17 Chevy SRW diesel about 2/3 weeks ago and they told him 8 weeks. We'll see how close they come to meeting that
|
I really wish GM would build the 3/4 Ton Suburban again and put a Duramax in it!!
|
I would buy one!

2500 or 3500? Any difference in ride from 2016 models? |
Might be popular, but probably 90k.+ loaded.
|
My brother-in-law just got his 1st 2017 Duramax in but it's already sold! I love the new hood scoop and body colored bumpers and bow ties. Looks clean!

I had a 6.0 Chevy 2500 and pulled a 36 Outlaw. It pulled it but liked to shift,,,,, ALOT. When I switched to the 8100/ Allison combo was night and day.
If you dont tow far, and it will be your DD the 6.0 will serve you well. If you like to travel I would step up IMO. And you are right there on weight. I was 12,600 on my Eagle trailer |
GM has had nasty shifting tranny's for a few years now. Can't seem to get a consistent performance from them. My son has a 1/2 ton '16 chevy with the same poor clunky shifting you describe. Nice truck, plenty of juice with the 5.3, but he has no confidence in the durability of the transmission. It seems that they should have figured that out by now.

MonkeySea2, if you are looking at towing around 8k, you can easily look at half ton trucks which will be a lot cheaper and ride better. I think everybody has half tons that tow around 10k pounds easily.
Obnoxus, yes, the 6.0 would tow my boat as it is rated at 14.5k. I can also get a Ram with the 6.4 that will tow 15k lbs. The big concern is that they will get horrible gas mileage. I was reading reviews online where people were only getting about 10 to 11 miles per gallon with the 6.0. The Ram boys claim better at around 13 to 14. Thats combines city highway. Problem with the gassers, you need the 4.10 gears for those tow rates. And when I can possibly get a Cummins powered Ram for the same price as a 6.0 Chevy, its hard to pass up. I will admit the styling was nice on the chevy. But I am partial to the Mega Cab for space and comfort. As for towing, Most trips will be local. We will tow the boat to Lake Erie from Pittsburgh a couple times a year. We have also towed it to Florida and hope to do more trips in the future. We also do at least one trip to the Outer Banks a year. So we do some long runs. |
Well, I did it. Let the comments begin along with all the mistakes... lol 2017 Ram Mega Cab with the Cummins Diesel. Big Horn trim. They gave us a decent deal and trade offer on old truck and the Challenger. Got the truck for 53,900 and after the trades, financing about 39K unless we decide to put some money down. Have to wait for the Credit Union to open on Monday to sign paperwork as well as get both trades to the dealer, which is an hours drive from home.

Dont have a paid membership right now so this is the link to the dealer page. The listed price is with all available incentives, some of which I did not qualify for. But still got a price close to it. |
Picked mine up today from getting the dpf converter replaced under warranty. No matter what I still think it's the best truck I have ever owned and we have had several deisel rams.
You will love the space of the megacab. |

Thanks. Having the kid along with the fact that, either my wife or myself, ride in the back seat a lot with him on trips the bigger cab will be nice.
|

Congrats! Great trucks. Love the mega! I have owned multiple Cummins Rams with 200-400k miles and had good luck with all of them!
I run the exhaust brake all the time unless it's slippery conditions I only run addative when parking for the night below zero Enjoy! |
That's a great price for a Mega Cab Cummins!!! The Chevy gasser cost that much!
|
Congrats !!

I actually towed with a 1/2 ton for a year before I bought my 2500. I didn't like the ride at all with the 1/2 ton. The suspension didn't like the weight and the engine struggled going up hills. Granted, that was back in 2007 but I'd prefer a 3/4 ton so with the 8K+ lbs and the family in the truck plus a loaded bed for vacation, it's still plenty of truck.
|
Congrats on the new truck. Love the white!
|
RollWithIt has it right. Just like with horsepower, More truck is better than not quite enough!
|
So my Brother in law the dealer just traded another dealer for a blk 2016 Silverado 2500 LT1. Very basic truck but it has the Duramax. So now I'm deciding if I want to go with the base model and add some customization, or wait and find a better equipped truck. Possibly a slightly used one. Yup, I'm with you guys 100% on buying more truck. Like I said, my rig was 8500 lbs on the steel trailer which I just swapped out for a a new aluminum trailer. So now I'm at 8100 lbs on the CAT scale. But when you load the truck down with vacation gear and 4 people, it's nice to have that torque of the diesel and the extra size and weight of the 3/4 ton truck to stop the rig!
|
I liked the fact that this truck already had many of the options I added on my older truck and then some. Yes, you can add aftermarket items/options but sometimes it is easier and cheaper to simply buy a vehicle with them already there. But, I you are somebody who enjoys the art of customization, then the lower level truck is the way to go and then customize it to how you want.
|
Factory equipped truck has warranty, no hassles with aftermarket vendors or installers, perceived value when you trade or sell and more snob appeal at the ramp or marina if you are a shallow, materialistic poop like me!

Roll,Congratulations on the new Ram, sure is pretty truck, of course I'm a little biased. How do you like the engine brake feature? I use mine all the time. The new interiors are really nice. And I really like my factory rear air suspension also. Just added custom mud flaps to mine
|
I just got myself a 2016 Silverado 2500 Duramax. The incentives on the remaining 2016 inventory made it a hard one to pass up! Close to 10K off the sticker. With the new L5P Duramax coming in 2017, the 16's are a nice deal.
|
Congrats on the new truck MonkeySea2. Like I said before, the chevy we looked at was very nice but didnt have the diesel. Im sure you will really enjoy the new truck.
Dean, I dont really use the exhaust brake too much around town. Even when turned on I rarely get up enough RPMs to get it to kick in while driving. I know it will be really appreciated once I tow the boat with it or haul a load. |
Thanks! I too will be anxious to test my exhaust brake when I tow. Lots of cool technology on the new truck. Glad I purchased the extended warranty!!
