AFE and K&N are making good products. Filters are synthetic- just wash and let dry, no more oiling. I put on the K&N Blackhawk series on my 06 Dodge last year.

Pol83x 02-15-2017 05:53 PM

S&B makes a decent one for that

Sydwayz 02-26-2017 03:21 PM

DO NOT put a K&N on ANY Powerstroke. This is a general no-no across ALL of the diesel forums.

I have a foam filter on my PSD from years ago, and it has held up well. The manufacturer is out of business now though.

AFE makes good products.

I wouldn't change it. I had an 06 and everything I read said the factory stock filter is the best available. Mine came with a CAI and I hated it, it was really loud. I sold it and put a stock unit back on and there was no noticable difference other than much quieter. I think the stock is good to 500hp.

I can't speak specifically for your model but I have had great luck with AEM HD intakes in the past.

S&B intake with a dry filter and be done. Don't want the oil from those wet filters sticking to your turbo blades.

I put a K&N cai on my silverado and am glad that i kept the factory unit because I hate the nose.

I doubt that will make any bit of a difference. Crankcase vents into the intake pre turbo and let's plenty of oil get all over it. Ever seen the problems they have with intercooler boots? The problem with oil on the filter way back was it getting on the mass air flow sensor.
Leave the stock setup in there. It is more than you need for what you have

Not sure on the diesels, but doing some data logging with my gasser truck, my IAT temps, are not much higher than ambient once on the freeway. The stock setup draws from the inner fender well. It does heat up at idle, but I think thats from the heat soak thru the plastics and what not. Once you get moving, it cools back down.

I was at the lake a week ago and Ol black Betty wouldn't turn over, so it looks like new batteries first, worse thing for a vehicle is having them sit around, and even harder on diesels.

Wobble 03-11-2017 11:22 AM

Battery tender is a must for vehicles that sit

Filter oil is a whole different animal, remember the oil soaked foam filters on dirt bikes.

batteries are five yrs old so its time, these I got at walmart cuz it the only place around at the time, what about interstate ??

RidnMcNasty 03-11-2017 12:17 PM

I ran interstate on my 05 Powerstroke and had zero problems with them. FWIW, i believe Costco sells interstate batteries now so you may be able to get them a bit cheaper than a dealer

Sydwayz 03-11-2017 06:00 PM

I was a "die-hard" Sears DieHard fan; for 25 years.
But I've given up on them.

I now have a pair of Interstates in my 2000 Ford PSD, and I am quite happy with them.

Pol83x 03-11-2017 07:24 PM

Group 65 Megatrons, only way to go. I also have a AFE stage 2 intake on my 02 7.3. Love it.
