GM Electric/EOH Brake Box

in the market for a 2007-2014 2500/3500 GM. in that generation the book says not to use EOH brakes on the factory brake control box. but starting in the 2015 body style you can? anybody have insight to this or why they say it?

has anybody towed a EOH trailer with the factory box in the 2007-2014 year range?

yes, I've logged many of miles with a 2008 GMC 3500. you just need to add a resistor on the trailer and your factory brake controller works perfect

Have a 2009 GMC with factory brake controller. I am installing Hydrastar EOH plug and play system right now. The factory says it won't work, the controller WILL work with EOH, but only if you use a controller adapter module. Titan and Hydrastar both make one. You can also use two electric brake magnets wired into the power side to "fool" the controller so it recognizes the EOH actuator.

I believe that most, if not all trucks, the factory controller is not hooked up from the factory. Mine wasn't. You have to locate the wire under the master cylinder and connect it to the proper connection at the front of the fuse box to get power to the 7 pin connector.

I use a Tekonsha Brake Controller on my '08 3500. That's the box I would recommend.

One of the above is what you need. It's essentially "fooling" the ITBC of the truck to think that it's connected to STRAIGHT ELECTRIC brakes (with magnets). This installs on the TRAILER. And if you end up towing with a truck that does not require it to be there, you just unplug it; very simple.

The later model trucks usually have an setting in the menu specific to EoH brakes. The above part is the alternative for trucks that don't.

I have one of those Hydrastar Controller Modules that I installed but later removed because I went with a Titan EOH unit and used their module. The unit is new. I'only used it a few times before I removed it and changed systems. If you need one I'll sell it to you for half the price of a new one.

I tow with a 2012 Suburban 2500 with Factory controller. I purchased an interface that plugs into my Brakerite system, Works great.

On my Escalade I plugged my controller into the brake panel under the dash and the only extra step I had to do was connect a positive wire under the hood that was there and taped off from the factory.

Should be the same for a truck I would think and.

Correct. If you use an aftermarket controller the power wire is located (as stated above) along the driverside fender near the fuse box and will need to be connected to the front lug on the fuse box. Factory controller power wire is located under the master cylinder and will need to be connected to the front lug of the fuse box. One or the other. Make sure your vehicle has a fuse in the proper slot (some years didn't come with a fuse) or pick one up at the parts store. Think it's a 40 amp fuse for both.
