Default 2500HD Complaints

I bought a new 2016 2500HD Duramax just shy of 18 months ago and overall I have been incredibly happy with the truck. Unfortunately, within the past few months I've had some issues. When the truck had roughly 18,000 miles on it I noticed a small amount of play in the steering. The play was subtle so I wasn't terribly concerned, but I was still annoyed. I made it to about 23,000 miles and noticed that the ride quality was deteriorating. My truck doesn't have a Z71 package so I thought a shock upgrade would help out. I removed the stock shocks when my new Bilstein 5100's arrived and I couldn't believe it, but the stock units were shot! The rears were leaking oil and both front and rears just felt terrible on the garage floor. I just said "Oh well", put my new Bilsteins in, and enjoyed a much better ride. Now I'm up to 25,000 miles and my steering wheel play has increased. It has just as much slop as my 1988 2500! WTF! If I'm traveling down the highway and tap the brakes in a corner, the wheel will tug left or right. Every front end component has been greased every 5,000 miles, I don't plow with it, and it's never been in the woods. I tow, haul, and drive some gravel roads around my place up north but have never abused the truck one bit.

Anyone else have similar issues?

28K on my 2016 Duramax and the only problem I have had is the XM radio antenna thing leaking. Other than that, steering and ride is still great.

Thanks for forwarding that Service Bulletin SB. It looks like I'm the next victim of that one. It will be heading into the dealer as soon as I can put it down for a few days.

Did you read some of the posts from that forum ? Some people had a nut or something loose on top of the box that the mechanics loctited and tightened and was okay??? I only read a few pages from the link I posted.

you are correct, the first thing gm ask to do is tighten that nut with lock tite. if ever it comes loose again or it is simply still loose, then change steering box or something like that. it does happen on some trucks, but not all of them.

simple fix
