Recommendations for towing 29' Fountain Fever Single Engine
I looking to buy a 29' fountain fever (2004+, single engine) in the near future and will need to upgrade my truck. I am seeking feedback on towing a boat this size with a 2014 or newer GMC/Chevy 1500 pickup, 4x4 with the 5.3L.
I have my eyes on a 2015 GMC Sierra All Terrain, 4x4, 5.3L with the 3.42 rear axle.
The 2015 GMC Sierra All Terrain, 5.3L with 3.42 rear end has a tow limit of 9,200lbs.
A 29' fountain fever single engine has dry weight of 5,850 lbs, 140 gal. tank (882 lbs of fully fueled), total 6,732 lbs. Plus passengers and luggage, I assume 7,500 lbs. would be max total load.
My towing distance would be 30 miles each way, mostly highway miles.
Thanks in advance for your feedback and experiences.

What about the trailer? Could you find one with the 6.0?

FWIW, I tow a Velocity VR 1 290 with a 2013 Yukon XL with the 5.3 engine. It does have the tow package. No problems at all. I am guessing the weights of the Fountain and Velocity are similar.

I have a 2012 Sierra 1500 with the max tow 6.2 and a 2016 Sierra 6.2 max tow and both trucks easily tow my single engine 29 Fountain. Both trucks have lower rear end ratios, stronger rear ends, and the 2016 has 400 lbs more gvw. Get the 6.2 and you are good to go. The 6.2 1500 will run rings around the 6.0 2500 and be plenty of truck to pull a 29 Fountain.

I had a '15 Sierra with the 5.3 and Max Tow option, and it did ok with my 30, but the 6.2 will run circles around it. I've now got a '16 Sierra with the 6.2/Max Tow and it is a beast. Much better than the 5.3. I had a Ford with the 3.5 EcoBoost, and it was even miles better than the 5.3. My '15 had a 3.73 rear too, over the stock 3.42.
Only problem with the 6.2, is that no one really orders them that way, so they're really hard to find. As for fuel mileage, my 6.2 is actually better on the highway than my 5.3 was. Only difference is I do run 93 in the 6.2.

Bigger is always better for towing - that being said the 1500 with 5.3 will have no problem.
I've downgraded to a 1/2 ton tow rig and have no problem towing my 28 with tin big blocks - I do miss my diesel but have no issues with the smaller gasser.
