Default Towing options - 10-12,000lb (weight guess)

Hi - I need to tow a 32' Active Thunder on a tri-axle aluminum trailer.

WEIGHT? - I have no clue what the weight of this is. My non-educated guess is that it is in the 10-12K lb range, but I could easily be way off. Any insights here?

VEHICLE - Given the weight, what would you recommend as a tow vehicle? Candidates I am thinking of are; 7.3 Excursion, 8.1 suburban 2500HD, F350 ( what engine/trans package), Silverado 2500HD, F250 super duty? This won't be a daily driver so I want to keep costs in the $15K range.

I realize a lot of this comes down to personal preference, I tend to prefer the Excursion. I am hoping to get feedback on vehicles, options, things to avoid & overall recommendations from you guys with a lot of experience.

Thank you for your help.

I pull my 37' Active Thunder that is on a triple axle Aluminum Myco with a 2011 Ford F-250 Crew Cab 4X4. It has the 6.7 Powerstroke and pulls it well. I previously had a 2004 Chevy 3500 Dually with the Duramax.

It’ll be tough to find a good 7.3 excursion for $15k that doesn’t have 300k miles. They tend to hold their value quite well. A 7.3 F250/350 in decent condition could be had for $15k and would tow that boat

My 1993 32' w/ triple axle steel trailer weights 9450 lbs w/ fuel tanks at 1/4. I figure 10,200 loaded fuel of fuel. I use a 09 Ford SD 250 w/ v10. I couldn't be happier. Quite impressed and I'm not impressed with gasser's most of the time.

I just put my 2002 Excursion on my lot. 2002 72,000 Miles. Pulled my 38 PQ perfectly. Just sold the PQ and I’m looking at a 22 Center Console. Don’t need the V10 monster anymore. It has been stored winters since 2010. I have it on Craigslist for $11900.00. My work number is 231-582-6543. If you have any interest. Ask for Bob.

Your choice depends on how you’re going to use your truck/tow vehicle.
If you are towing long distances go for the largest diesel you can afford.
If it’s short hauls to the ramp buy whatever you want as long as the GVWR is appropriate for your application
personally I have towed hundreds of thousand miles. Gassers. Suburban. Pickups.
By far my favourite is a one ton dually diesel, especially if you’re going long distances.
