Nissan Titan XD Diesel

Anyone have any real world experience towing >10k lbs. with the Nissan Titan XD diesel? It's supposed to be more than a half ton truck but less than a 3/4 ton.

Some magazine articles I read ripped it for the engine/driveline not being up to the task, even without a trailer.

I'm also curious if anyone has any experience with the gas Titan XD? Seems like either version would be a good alternative as a daily driver to a true 3/4 ton truck if it can really handle the weight as advertised.

I rented a gas version a couple times and was not impressed.

It ran good but motor was noisy.
I had to read the owners manual to see it was listed as a 3/4 ton.
I laughed out loud.

Nice as a daily driver but a truck.

After reading that it reminds me of Honda trying to sell their Ridgeline as a truck.

Not.

As refined as the new trucks are I'm not sure why you wouldn't just buy an F250 or a 2500GMC (other than cost, and I'm not sure what the price point is on the Nissan's).

My Diesel F350 rides just as nice as my wife's Yukon and my FIL's Tundra and I don't think it's any louder. Height and length obviously come into the discussion but a short bed is still a pretty capable towing platform and useable around town all day every day.

I just bought a ‘15 GMC Sierra 1/2 ton, crew cab short bed 4 wd.

9200 lbs towing w/a 5.3.

As Seaford says, drives like a car, great burn outs 😉, tows my 25’ Checkmate like it’s not there.

Getting ready to rent a Bobcat and test it’s true towing ability.
So far, I’m blown away.

PS, 20 MPG @ 80 on cruise.

I know the older Titans has rear end/ring/pinion issues when towing practically anything... No idea on the new ones.

I use a 2016 Silverado with a 5.3L to tow my 27 Fountain.

I'm most impressed by the fact it still gets 13mpg while towing the boat.

I thought for sure it would be around 10mpg but it pulls down 13mpg pretty easily.

I have a GMC 2500 HD crew cab short box. Bought it after my Tundra couldn’t handle my 353 Formula. My biggest issue with the 2500 HD is the size when it comes to parking. Also, the turning radius is terrible and the ride is rough compared to the Tundra and probably most half tons.

I have a RAV4 as a daily driver. We drive it just about everywhere and it’s easy to find a parking spot with. Just trying to see there is a truck out there that can tow my boat and be a good daily driver. I’d like to consolidate to one vehicle since I’m not commuting very much anymore and we only tow 6 – 7 times/year including in and out of storage. Most trips are short distances.

One of the major car magazines in the last year or so had a long term test on one. They said it was plagued with problems and the power was pathetic. You should be able to find it on a google search. I have driven one and was not impressed .
