Owens and Sons Trailer - New Bunks
Anyone replaced the bunks on one of their trailers? I received the bunks (12x4x12... HUGE) and will be replacing this weekend. My current bunks are pretty much junk, and I'm sure I'll be able to kick them off after undoing the lateral supports.
Question... and I'm only asking because I think the current pieces will break... what size lag screws should I use to secure the bunks to the i-beam? I was thinking 3/8 or 1/2 -inch, but how long? The bunks are 12-inches high and 4-inches thick. I'm thinking I'll need a lot of them! (I've emailed Owen and Sons, but I probably won't hear back until tomorrow, and I'm impatient with getting parts).
Thanks in advance... plan to do this on Saturday rain or shine. Then, I think we'll finally be done with fixes for the summer.

I pulled one... the rest are junk... and it’s 3/8 by 4-inch.
I’m going to use 4-inch on the inside and 6-inch on the outside. The lag screws lasted 26 years so I think I’ll put it back together the way it was done.
I will more than likely thru-bolt the outer fasteners fore and aft (there are five lag screws inboard and two outboard per side). These along with the 45-degree horizontal stabilizers should do it up decently.

I had an Owens & Sons under my Pantera. The bunks are huge and sit right on top of the I beams on the inside of the fenders. The same size lag bolts as what they used should last another 20+ years.

Tom,
The only thing I will say about the through bolts was that I replaced the carpet the other day (hopefully for the next owner) and it was really easy to unbolt, re lay the carpet and bolt right back up
