Question

can I put wheels that have recently been powder coated in the family oven long enough to heat them up to expand them to drop some new wheel bearings in or would that be a toxic risk?

Long story here but my kids stumbled across my childhood go-kart in one of my father's storage facilities so I'm in the middle of a financially ignorant restoration project......

Sure,,, and put some fries and dogs in there while your at it....:D.....seriously I wouldn't, my guess is the powder will try to reactivate and fume then you'll need to buy another oven

Pick up a cheap oven off Craigslist or FB Marketplace, and just rig it up outside. You should be able to find one for less than $100.

or put the bearings in the freezer for a couple days,

I am just going to dry ice the bearings and and go use my uncle's bearing press..... Was trying to do it without a trip to his shop.....

Brian - I've spent $655 dollars this week on a go kart I paid 75 bucks for!! I don't want to spend anymore!!

Sounds like you’re a little upside down in that thing.

Yes, and they will probably not be as appreciative as they should be!

Just a touch. I scraped together 75 bucks when I was a child to buy it from a neighbor and probably put 50,000 miles on that thing! Used to have to pour water on the clutch to get it to work!! Good times - the ruts in my parents and the neighbors years were so deep the cart would bottom out.

Nostalgia makes you do stupid things
