Rust free truck beds
Having a heck of a time finding some vintage 2000 sheetmetal. Specifically a truck box 8ft for that era Dodge.
Anyone have any connections to someone down south, TX or out west? |
I see them on FaceBook Marketplace from time to time, a group of them usually from some chap that buys them from down south and brings them north.
Also, download the app BRZO for your phone. It's a great app that searches all of Craigslist and works really well. |

Anyone have any connections to someone down south, TX or out west? There is a shortage of clean stuff down south. I had an employee smash a 2002 1500 chevy. Insurance wanted to fix it, I took their check and sold the wrecked truck "as is." Took a shot in the nose (grill/bumper/headlights/radiator/frame ends and of course the airbag). It ran/drove short distances fine (until it got warmed up/no radiator). I sold the whole truck on craiglist to a guy buying it just for the bed/tailgate! He said a clean bed/tailgate is $2000 so he bought it, planned on parting it and was going to fix it/put a wood stakebed on it and hopefully resell it for what he paid me ($2500). Truck was 10+ years old at the time, I took the cash and the insurance check and bought a new one. |
most of the places i googled were in ohio by you guys, brand new take off beds by the lots just sitting

Check on Car-Part.com most large suppliers will check multi state areas. LKQ corp. is throughout the US and will search the country for you.
|
Also check with companies like Monroe and Ready truck parts, they sometimes have take off beds from vehicles they converted.

I just put a used 2nd gen 8" box on my '01 dodge dually........local junk yard had 2 of them .....didn't know they were rare.
|
I looked pretty regularly for a used rust free bed for my 2007 2500HD Classic(sold it) and never found any that I thought were priced decent.

Srw is DRW? I have a pretty clean 2001 drw box off my Cummins, original owner pulled it off at 50k miles for a steel flatbed
|
Damn, sorry, SRW. Seems like the duals are a lot easier to find.
This will just take time, have to continually hit some or all of what you guys have posted. thanks. It's pretty common for the guys here in OH to make trips out west and come back with a trailer full of stock. These vintage trucks are very popular now and seem to bring top dollar. 100K mi Cummins, 1998-2002 nice bodies are trading for upwards of $25K! 60-80K mi examples are going for $30K. I thought they were outrageous 8 years ago at $18K, should have hoarded some. The single cab 8ft bed 5-speed manual are the rarest, they are all rusted unless someone kept one for a hotrod, inside and garaged. Stock setups are hard to find also. Great trucks, I want to keep this one on the road. I daily it. |

I'm in south Jersey, but traveled to Medina, Ohio to buy the dodge ram with 108K miles on it.....Also, .it's non "53" Cummins Truck which I didn't know anything about at the time...just lucky I guess!.....I bought it for $13K almost 3 years ago.. it now has 114K on her....wonder what she is worth. |
I live in North Carolina. Smaller local junk yards are full of rust free beds for all trucks. No problem finding one here.

Here is the truck - 2001 5-speed 106K mi, really nice shape. I knew there was some touch up needed bottom side to keep any rust from ruining the truck. Uncovered more issues int he bed and am looking to just replace it instead of carving up and patching the body work. It's a really nice stock rig, not even a spot on the interior. I bought it with a video inspection, seller was not truthful and I got burned a little. I did not inspect it and had it shipped to me, lesson learned. I really like the truck and should last forever if I can take care of the bed and a few spots. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...dc00e30f84.jpg Scrippy, post your truck up. I bet it's worth close to 20K if it's clean. Good purchase. |

Here's my 2000 ram dually doing the only thing I use it for...hauling hay in the summer...at least until I buy a bigger boat that will require its use...107 on the clock NEVER been out in the winter salt crap..was left to me by my grandfather so it will be in my barn until I die only to come out and do some work occasionally...had 84k on it when he passed away in 2014 and since then I have done a plug in programmer, general maintenance, intake, exhaust, new stereo, and tinted it...only left is possibly some wheels at some point.
On a side note...scippy what headlights are those in yours? I like the one piece look https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...e69313739.jpeg not the best pic but all I have handy Justin...as far as beds...I can't remember the place's name offhand but it's in middlebury IN and they had craploads of beds last time I was there...actually bought one for an 88 ford dually project I have going...had a couple dings but not a speck of rust and I think I paid like 800 bucks for it..I'll try to find the name of the place |
|
Yep that's it!! Nailed it hahaha
|
BBYSTWY.........The head lights came with the truck so I do't have anymore info, but there not LED just a different one piece lens with bulb.......you have a great work truck especially with it's family significance .....Love the 2nd gens!!

No, it's got ramps, see those pockets in the back? Also has one of the quick mount rail systems, can;t think of the name right now.
Scippy - we have OH cranes at the shop. Would like to mount a hoist in the garage though, that would be super batcave batman cool. |
