Why did Myco trailers come with LT tires?
I have a custom Myco 12,000 lb. tandem trailer under my 2005 Fountain 35 Lightning and it came with the Goodyear Wrangler HT LT235/85r/16 tires. The original tires were on the trailer when I bought it 6 years ago and every season I have had it inspected and serviced (at various trailer/tire shops) and subsequently been advised the tires did not need replacement. I trailer about 1,000 miles per season with no in incidence. These tires are now 15 years old and still hold full tire pressure even after winter storage with the boat ikept on the trailer. I am changing them this spring and have been reading that the ST tires are better for trailering. However I have had such good luck with the LTs that I’m leaning on replacing them with the same tire. Was there a reason why Myco originally put LTs on instead of ST tires? In my case they have worked very well.

if it ain't broke dont fix it, I just bought 8 Firestone LT's for my trailer

My Myco is a 2001 and has the Wrangler HT's as well. They look perfect w/no cracking but they are too old and it's getting new load range E Firestones

Stick with the LT,s

I’d run LTs over STs any day. Look how well they lasted you, you won’t find anyone saying the same about STs. The only “trailer” tire I’d run on that if you really wanted, would be the Sailun 637. G-load tire, had them on a heavy race car trailer, they’re beasts.

ST tires have come a LONG way in the last 10-15 years. But I'd still take an LT tire on a 16" rim if given the opportunity.
My Myco had Wrangler HTs on it when I bought it, a few years used. I replaced them with the in 2012 or so exact same, and they were on there when I sold it in 2016. If you are stuck with 15" wheels because of the trailer configuration, you pretty much have to go with an ST tire. |
LTs do better, and I get them balanced as well. They wear even

You guys are nuts to let tires go as long as you do.

On our newest trailer, I started going with 17.5" HD commercial wheels and will never have a trailer without them. The tires are J rated/ 18 ply and rated for 6,005lbs each. Even at that and being stored indoors, I will still replace them every 5 years or so. Just isn't worth the potential downtime on the side of the road, even with the tools and spare parts.
