Trailer tires?
Going to start hauling my TopGun around, moved from LOTO to Dallas area.
We plan on logging some miles over next few years with my boating buddy moving to AZ and the rest of the crew still back at LOTO. The original HD MyCO is still in perfect shape but will get a few thing addressed, #1 being all new tires... bias ply or radials? Some of my friends have switched their equipment trailers over to HD radials and are getting “less blowouts and way longer life” but if they do get a blowout it’s obviously catastrophic... I’ve seen the damage done as I’ve repaired it. opinions from those who haul regularly and long is appreciated... - Bill |
Bias Ply, They still make those?
Serious Note: 1St Question? What size are the tires and how many lugs on the wheels? Depending on how old the trailer is you may want to look at changing to a tire and wheel combination, it may be cheaper? But we will need to know this first. We can lead you down the correct path once we know that. |
I too will be needing a set of 4- 14" tires as mine are getting old.
What is currently the best tire to get? I would love to go with a larger diameter , but it is more work than I want to get into at this time. |
They are 8 lug aluminum wheels 16”. I don’t want new wheels, just tires.

A good place to look: https://www.etrailer.com/dept-pg-Tra...SAAEgKtgPD_BwE
Another option, is Firestone Transforces. |

OR Goodyear Endurance ST Trailer tires. I have had great experience with both of them. For 15" wheels... I would recommend Maxxis 8008 trailer tires OR Goodyear Endurance ST trailer tires OR Rainier ST trailer tires. For 14" I would recommend Rainer ST trailer tires. OR Maxxis 8008 trailer tires. I have used all of the above with good to great results. I do NOT recommend Goodyear Marathon or Carlisle ST trailer tires. I have personally as have many others had bad experiences with these. I have never in my life bought a bias ply tire. The only reason I ever would is if I got into vintage racing. Even for a trailer where bias ply has been an option, just by Radial ST tires. Some folks are also very happy with Saliun or Goodyear G-rated trailer tires. I have no experience, so I can't comment on such. |
They are actually 16.5” wheels.
what prompted this post was the fact that multiple tire dealers told me they couldn’t get tires and the ones that could are over $200 each for the Transforce. I’m told it’s because it’s 16.5” im waiting on a few quotes on tires and wheel packages. Yours looks real sharp Speedy! |
I've had good luck with Carlisle, some people bag on them but...objective evidence is key.
Personally I think those Firestone TRANSFORCE look like da bomb...wish I would have known about them...sigh. |
