Deadly boat towing accident.

I live about 45 minutes from the scene. Boat was 38K pounds rolling down Spooner from Lake Tahoe. It is a beautiful scenic drive that is enjoyed by many but is fairly twisty with a pretty serious grade. Very easy to burn up the brakes on the tow vehicle and trailer if you don't know what you are doing like using an F-350 to tow a 38K pound boat! This guy did so many things wrong that it should be used as a "what not to do" lesson for anyone towing.
There is talk that the boat owner may have some responsibility to but hard to say. If they hired this guy knowing how under qualified and under trucked (is that a word?) he was they may be in trouble. Lawyers will be looking at everyone involved and thinking, "big boat and Lake Tahoe, owner must have some coin".

So sad. I agree with other poster about wondering if he was hotshotting. If 38k that’s way out of 26k rules. But the question is, did he have anything at all given the descriptions of charges? I was in trucking for years, started driving ended up regional manager. It’s either legal or not. You may do it 1 time and be lucky but it catches up to you. I’ve seen so many people needlessly killed.
so sad, people killed, families grieving, lives ruined, all because “somebody” didn’t do it right. He’s toast and rightfully so. The best guys that had tragic unavoidable crashes were destroyed by it. The worst guys who had avoidable crashes like this weren’t troubled at all. Hard to defend yourself from that. All I can say, I wish people gave trucks more room. Boats are common here and tow rigs don’t leave space or an out. Surrounding cars bunch up and crowd them. If something happens, nowhere for people to go.
