So for those of you who keep your boat in the marina, or on a lift at your house.. What do you do with the trailer when you buy a boat that comes with one? Sell it? Nearly every boat I've been looking at comes with a trailer and I have absolutely nowhere to put it.

keep it. when it comes time to sell that boat, it's a lot easier to sell a boat w/a trailer. I used to be able to keep my trailer at the marina... now I have to bring it home and it just sits in my garage all summer with yard care stuff on top of it.

Keep it, I have to pay for storage but comes in handy when I need to pull the boat out, want to go to a run etc.

Yeah, I figured I was going to need to keep it. What kind of places are you guys finding to store a 30 or 40 foot trailer?

Usually outdoor storage, kinda hard on the tires and bunks, but the cheap way.

Indoor covered storage, same place I keep my boat/trailer in the winter.
Some areas have a community open indoor storage option. Less expensive but very workable if you don't use the area for anything but boat/trailer.

not limited too, but do a local internet search using : Rv, boat, and trailer storage.

i’m in the sticks with plenty off woods next to my house so i have 5 trailers here while not creating an eyesore .

Most marina's will accommodate trailer storage. Lots of reasons to keep it - resale, lake get's flooded, use for winter storage, etc. You don't want to be married to the marina either and will need to be able to take the boat places to get work done.

One question is, how long are you going to keep the boat in the high and dry? Now crunch the numbers. How much can you sell the trailer for realistically? How much is storage per month?

If you're not going to use the trailer for 2 or more years, sell it if it's in good shape. Good trailers get a premium. If it's not in good shape there's no reason in holding on to it. And the trailer will be worse off when you go to use it.
Take the money from the sale of the trailer and bank it. Put the money that you would have put towards storage and bank that also. Put it in a money market and let it earn interest. Now when you sell the boat and need a trailer. You can buy a new or a good used one.
