EOH Brakes not working
 

My EOH brakes were not working when I pulled the boat out of winter storage this spring. Brake fluid level is good so I replaced the battery assuming that had to be the issue, no luck. I have tail lights, brake and turn signals so I dont believe it has anything to do with the plug. My truck has a factory brake controller that I always kept set on 3, anything higher and the the trailer brakes overpowered the truck, I adjusted the controller but the trailer brakes are not working. Any way to test the electric pump? I apologize do not know the brand of brakes, trailer is a 2008 Vanguard tri-axel under a 32" Sunsation. EOH brakes would appear to have been installed at the factory. You cant tell much from the photo but thi sis all I have access to at the moment.

Battery is only for the emergency function, when the pin gets pulled out of the emergency actuator (meaning that maybe the trailer decided to go in a direction other than where your tow vehicle was headed).

How about the basics - what condition are the brake lines in? Any sign of leaks? Brakes on all 3 axles or just one? Condition of pads and rotors?

brakes lines are all in good condition, just had the trailer service two seasons ago with new bearings, tires, brakes were checked etc...all in good condition. I was towing about 500 mile each way from Michigan twice a year. I think its an electrical issue between the 7 pin and controller.

Check the fuse in the truck? When we first bought our boat and trailer the brakes wouldn’t work either. Lights, blinkers all worked, brake actuator just clicked. It was my truck. Blown fuse

Test it at the plug at the rear of the truck. Sounds like you may have power to the actuator, since it clicks, but check it to be sure. Controller output wire should be blue and should be the pin at 5 o'clock if oriented with the slot up. Ground is white and should be at 7 o'clock. My truck is oriented slot down, so it can be confusing. If you have power there, you should be good. If no power there, check the fuse as stated above. What actuator do you have? Hydrastar, Dexter, Titan? From your pic, it looks like it could be a Titan, but can't be sure. If you can't hear the pump come on (only clicks) manually via the controller in the truck, the issue is very possibly a bad actuator. Call the manufacturer, they can and will help you diagnose the problem. Sometimes, they will give you a break on any replacement parts you might need.

I just checked the connector on the plug and I have power at the 7 pin on the truck, tester lights up when brakes are applied. My truck has the slot at the 12 noon position. I hear any noises or clicks when the brakes are applied. my Actuator is a Titan I could not remember the name but recognized it in print. If I have a blown fuse in the truck would the test light still work when checking the 7 pin on the truck?

No fuse, no power. Sounds dumb, but have you tried manually applying via the controller? Does it do anything other than click? I would call Titan (Dexter) and talk to their tech guys. If they are anything like Hydrastar, they will be able to help you find the issue.

Just another thought. Hook everything up and pull your breakaway. It should activate the actuator. If it doesn't do anything other than click.....the actuator may be bad.

Check the 7 Pin, Just because it is giving a signal, does not mean it can carry the load. I had a tiny nick in a wire, which caused corrosion and wasn't giving the system enough current to make the pump run correctly. I would start there after checking my truck fuses. Very seldom does the pump go bad

Easiest way when I was checking is hooking 7 pin into another truck if you have a buddy with brake controller, you can eliminate alot in 1 minute

Hey Robin. When checking the plug on your truck, the top right pin will be hot all of the time. Also the pins @ 3 o-clock and 9 o-clock will be hot with the brakes pressed because they are your turn signal wires. The one that comes from the brake controller will be on the bottom right, 5 o-clock position. Check it for power with someone sliding over the bar on the brake controller. If this wire has power, the problem is on the trailer, not the truck
