Collector Car Insurance

1 Attachment(s)
Does anyone know of or have a collector car covered under a special ins. policy? I have a 1989 Turbo Trans Am( Indy 500 Pace Car). It's one of 1,500 made with a Buick GNX turbo charged engine. I'm Looking for an insurance policy for rare cars.

Thanks
Capo

Be careful of the classic car insurance companies. I saw an advertisement on TV for one that sounded great, until I started reading the policy. They said we want you to be able to drive your car. Only problem was it could not be used as a second car, or could you use it to run an errand, it could never be driven to work for any reason. I said what if we have a car show at work one day and everybody drives there car to work, nope can't do it. So when am I allowed to drive it, he said for anything other than whats listed.

I have my '74 455 Trans Am insured through Wally Smith's agency in Dallas. 972-424-5541. I can't recall if it is hagerty or not. Wally is into classic cars. The coverage is cheap but restrictive. I think I pay around $250 a year and I think the agreed value is $15000 although I couldn't replace it for that. The coverage dictates that if you leave the car unattended it is not insured unless it is being serviced, trailered or in a car show. It also limits you to 2500 miles a year. I drive mine less and it sits in the garage most of the time so it is perfect for me and most weekend cars.

Good luck. I've always liked those Turbo '89 Trans Ams. Nice car.

Try American Hobbyist out of Stuart, FL

800-395-4835

Had my Vette and '32 Ford insured through them. Good rates with good coverage.

Hagerty is a good company. We have our superbird insured with them. I was nervous with a claim when someone hit it and took off, but they came thru with first class service.

CAPO,
I have Condon & Skelly in Maple Shade NJ . Just got 2005 bill ...74 Vette , 75 Vette , 69 Chevelle L79 , and 69 Chevy pickup dual quad 496 , total of $679 for the year :D
Not sure if they do that new but it may be with a call. The Vettes and Chevelle are stock antiques. The pu is highly modified from the engine to the tubbed rear and 18.50 X33 rear tires so it's a street rod policy ( a little higher rate). That part was , I believe , $228 a year. All have 2500 mile max.
A friend has his fleet with The Grundy Agency in Upper Darby if you want to stay on your side of the river
