Towing advantage with 8 foot bed

I am getting ready to look for a new truck. I have made up my mind that it is going to be another f-250 crew cab with the camper package and stabalizer package. I will be towing a new 37 Chief that will weigh around 12k pounds with trailer and gear. I towed a similar boat with the same truck with the 7.3 liter and 8ft bed without any problems.

I would prefer the 6 3/4 bed as it is also my daily driver. Is there any real twoing advantage as far as stability with the longer bed?

the added wheelbase will give you stability but not that much.... a gooseneck trailer with 12k would be a cinch to tow...

No problem at all with the short bed, I used to pull the 37 with a Excursion 7.3, pulled great, just on the interstate if a semi flys by it will push the truck around a little, thats why I went to a dually. The new 6.0 is a much better motor than the 7.3. The trans in the tow/haul mode is great.

What power you going too put in the Chief?? Graphics????

Thunderdan:

This is interesting, in one thread they tell an OSO'er towing a 36 Nortech to get a dually. On this thread they telly you to go with the shorter bed. I would go with the longer bed with that much weight (12k).

I think having the shortbed dually will overcome the shorter wheelbase as opposed to having the full length of a full length bed. I have had friends who have had both, and stated this is the case.

As far as Fords go, I would want this order in means of towing stability;
Assuming all crew cabs:

350 6 foot bed SRW
350 8 foot bed SRW
350 6 foot bed DRW
350 8 foot bed DRW

Dan, Docmanrich37 has a 2500HD Chevy, CC, Short-bed, pulling his 37AT on a Myco with Electric over Hydraulic Brakes. I think you will be fine with whatever you choose, but if I were buying a Ford, isn't the F350 only a few hundred more than the F250?

PM Troutly for more info. He has forgotten more about Ford trucks than most of us will ever know.

It is not a $ issue for me, it is availability. I am looking at all SRW trucks. I did find one with the suspension upgrades so it has that, plus I anted the better ride of the 250. My last truck was a crew cab with the 8ft bed and it was a pain in the ass to drive around. I only tow maybe 4-6 times a year, maybe once down to Fla and back(I usually have it hauled). I was going to go with the shorter bed to make it easier for my daily driver.

But I also do not want to have an issue towing..

The camper package is 1 upfront spring(400 lb upgrade), rear stabalizer bar, and aux rear springs,

I pull a 42 Sonic on a heavy trailer (About 15000 total) with a 4 door short bed. No problems at all. Toledo to Miami and back.
