Best chip/upgrades for 6.0 powerstroke

I am wondering what chips/mods are the best out there for the 6.0 powerstroke. In my 2003 7.3 I did the upgraded exhaust, a WD 3 stage chip and ram air.

Again, I'm going to have to say that the Edge Juice/Attitude are the only way to go. ;)

Re: Best chip/upgrades for 6.0 powerstroke

This is what I have been told by many people, as my new 6.0 should be here soon. The Banks is the safest, does add nice power but not as much as the edge. The edge needs to be piggy backed with another system that works on the tranny. There are a couple more, but I have heard most of those have issues. I am going with the Banks Big Hoss Bundle as I tow a lot of weight and they are the only ones with a complete kit including a new intercooler. Now like I said this is only what I have been told, but I do know a couple of people with the banks six gun and it does a nice job and they have had no problems with this system. So if anyone else knows something better let me know too. Right now I am leaning towards the banks as I said.

From what I was told, only the Edge has "de-fueling". That means that if EGT goes up too high, it backs off on fuel until the temp comes down. I wouldn't want a system that forced me to watch the temp gauge closely for fear of melting the pistons and exhaust valves.

Very happy with the edge/attitude. Outstanding customer service.

The banks six gun system monitors the EGT and it also monitors boost pressures as well. It controls the output to keep these with in spec.....

Re: Best chip/upgrades for 6.0 powerstroke

I have to recommend the Super Chips Micro Tuner. I have been running it for 4 months now with no problems. It pulls the boat great (approx 11,000lbs) at 70mph up hill. The egts did not go over 950. In economy the truck runs very strong. I made a pass at the local 1/4 mile at 14.7 at 93 mph. This tuner also tunes the transmission. Good luck.

PS: you will need gauges or a monitor with the SCMT

Re: Best chip/upgrades for 6.0 powerstroke

I use the Superchips tuner also ... 0-60MPH in 5.47 seconds in High Performance Mode! Towing 13,000 Lbs. in Tow safe mode foot to the floor for 3 minutes going up hill EGT never went over 900! I love the tuner and for the 2005 it takes about 2 mionutes to change the programming. I am a dealer for them and will give jobber pricing to anyone interested. E-Mail me at [email protected].

If I were to do a programmer I would go Diablo over any other. Customer service is twice what SuperChips is and gained horsepower is higher too.

Plenty of good chip/ monitor packages available that I wouldn't hesitate to use.

Re: Best chip/upgrades for 6.0 powerstroke

I agree with ExcaliburHawk40. I"ve been running the SC 1704 on mine sinc ethey came out last year. It's not the biggest power maker out there, but when yout hit the road, the power coupled with the great tranny tuning it hangs with just baout any of them.

I'd stay away from Diablo (flash tuner like SC) for the 6.0, as well as the Edge/Attitude (in-line module). Edga has blown up a lot fo trannies and Diablo like to blow coolant and according to them, they don't actually tune the tranny, although shifting doesn't seem to be a problem with them

If you want more power??? SCT (Superchips Custom Tuning). A company started by a joint venture wiht SC but no relation in day to day or programming. The SCT (dealer like Innovative Diesel) comes with core programs but the dealer/tuner can build new programs. Eric as Inovative has a couple of fairly new tunes that are calling me to try. He's making power like the Edge and other in-line modules, but also tuning the tranny so they are getting good power down to the ground.

Tuners are general cheaper at $300-$450 where in-line modules are usually $500-$1000. Quadzilla has a new product in beta that is suppossed to be the cats a$$ as well.

I ran the edge juice / attitude on my 05 for 8 months, then started to have some problems with the screen, they told me this system should not be used on the 05 and just sent me a new system. The thing I dont like about it is I had four fuel injectors go bad last week so I had to pull it all off before taking it to the shop. I tried the Diable on my 05 last week and liked it, I do know MTK was pulling a triple car hauler and did overheat coolant ( 03 ) but I was pulling my 42 tiger and had no problem....

Re: Best chip/upgrades for 6.0 powerstroke

I've got a Diablo in my 2002 PSD. I know it's a 7.3, but I really like it. I can program shift points. It really ran on the middle setting (80hp). I then changed it to the ecnonomy setting for towing (60hp). All week last week I was towing a 12k-14k fertalizer cart, stop and go, in and out of fields and got 18.5 mpg. I thought that was pretty good.

My only mods were the diablo programmer and switched to 34" tires, the had my Ford dealership recalibrate the speedo for the 2" taller tires.

Re: Best chip/upgrades for 6.0 powerstroke

Food for thought on the coolant issue with the Diablo unit.

I have almost 100 units on the street with ZERO reports of coolant overflow. There are plenty of members here that can back up my reports on this too.

My personal truck has one on it. This truck has been run HARD to say the least. My truck gets drag raced pretty regularly around here. Not a spot of coolant in 18k miles.

The SC is probably a safer unit to run. It's easy to see why....it makes less HP. BUT, customer service is lacking too. I think there are those here that can back this claim up also. ;)

Sorry Troutly.....you didn't actually expect me to leave a Diesel truck thread alone did ya? :D

I have the Bully Dog Powerhound and like it. No shifting issues, smooth power. With no cat of muffler and dual pipes from the muffler back, it does get hot at times, up to 1100 at the manifold.

That would be a Ford issue as the tranny is the weak link behind their diesel. I hear of lots of trannies going away when the truck is in stock form as well. :D

Re: Best chip/upgrades for 6.0 powerstroke

Ive had Edge on my last 6 trucks. Although I have been happy, the defueling and getting the power to work with the tranny as well as all around performance has been a PITA.

I did alot reserch and have been using the SCT, which is mentioned above. In std form its all you need. I just leave it in perf. tune, it is much quicker out of the hole, and my midrange is great, top end Edge was stronger, but EGTS were also higher. It gets the power to the ground quicker, safer, and I still can beat on those rice burners as well as a few mustangs. :D Shifts perfect every time, has 2 lesser power levels, economy and tow. I opted for a custom tune with a switch to extreme tune, I believe I am the only one that has this to this point. The new rendition will be here Tuesday-Wed. This Extreme tune is the most power that the injectors can pump out and the tranny can somewhat handle, I didnt want to leave it on this level, even though it would be ok, the temptation is always there, so for me a switch will work out better. This is much quicker than my Edge, blows it away, and shifts perfectly. I have been working with Tadd from Rocky Mountain Diesel who has now joined forces with ATS diesel. Kyle is the owner and Tadd works for him, both great guys www.atsdiesel.com. 1-800-949-6002. They know what they are talking about, very honest. I am in the process of switching my other trucks over. Re: Best chip/upgrades for 6.0 powerstroke

diablo makes more power than the edge. the coolant issue
is one that some stock vehicles have experienced so it's not just diablo. had a truck last week with the edge with same problem. other than trans problems related to the planetary
recall, i haven't seen a single trans failure, chipped or stock.
i've installed edge & diablo & the diablo had way more power
and shifted better. edge defueling is a good concept but there
tuners don't seem to be as good or smooth as diablo.
i run a ford service dpartment so i've seen the problems ford has stock & chipped.

I have a 04 ford f350 with 90,000 miles.it has a banks intake and exhaust, i am wondering which chip would be best it just seems like it needs a little more get up and go. i mainly pull up to 7000 pounds at a time. thanks

ZBODaytona 04-08-2010 10:04 AM

take jass advise... get the SCT. I used to have banks but it died. So i went with the SCT with custom tunes from innovative, taking his advice. I will warn you though, i blew head gaskets and installed studs. Any extra power with these motors I am a firm believer in doing the head studs. Heck i would probably do them on a stocker. The SCT tunes the tranny and has the some of the best power as long as you get the custom tunes. ps I started out with the banks big hoss bundle. so it had everything banks made at the time. the sct is night and day difference from the six gun, especially when it comes to the tranny.
