Suffice it to say, the originator of this thread knows what he's talking about. As for the LOA, the present day 41' would be marketed as a 43' if the original boats were 41' without a platform, now wouldn't they? See my last post. ;) Believe what you want... The wood boat ran well. I have some video of it racing several races, here somewhere. This 26' flying in perfect trim would be me circa 1994 |
Re: big red 38 velocity
No problem. :) Back when, 38-39' was the hot number in that racing class, and I believe the rules were a 39' max. I may be wrong tho. :drink:
I think you'll find the running surface on today's 41' to be identical to the original 38'+ boats ;) |

I'd like a 41'. If I had the "jack" to go that big...
I'd like to build a square transom boat with a phat tubular platform. Minimum of amenities...just rails and hatches so it's usable maybe no w/s, just a clear rolled acrylic lip red/black straight line paint...maybe the T-Bred "T" stripe porta potti in a enclosed head, couches and huge berth old school hardcore appearance... fuctional in use...big sleeping, private head, hatches for air, and rails to make it safer out there. light for a typical modern " 41' ", but appropriate attention to it's Lake Ontario time in terms of build particulars. Think it would run 75 on 425's/Bravos ??? |
Re: big red 38 velocity
That boat should be right at 75 mph, that's what the 390 at the Miami boat show ran with 425/bravos and no tweaking.
These 39/41 threads really get interesting. |

Re: big red 38 velocity
Yea, I thought of your boat after I typed that.

Re: big red 38 velocity
Nice lookin' boat!

Re: big red 38 velocity
Rippem..............you be reading my mind! :D
The tubular platform has got to be a lot lighter and also a more hardcore look. Mr Velocity: nice boat I like the simplicity of the all white. Seems like all the rage today is big buck paint jobs a-la monster garage. Personally I would rather spend it on LOA and in the engine well, but to each his own. PS: Had the first blast on Friday afternoon....hellooo summer :drink: |
Re: big red 38 velocity
Hey Rippem, just out of curiosity... what is Mark L.'s boat 'Stepp Aside'? Is it a 39 or a 41? Year, engines, speeds? He hasn't ran it much the last couple years, do you think would he consider selling it, or is it sentimental to him?

Re: big red 38 velocity
41'...and I'm sure it's for sale. ;)
