320 handling
 

I have a 320 velocity with twin 454mpi the boat will run 70,71 I run 25 hydros turned in. do any of you guys experience and handling problems with these boats at the top. to calm it down with trim or planes I sacrifice speed, the planes help more than the trim. any suggesstions do you guys use the k- planes alot? looking for a little advise.

K-planes are a must.... and there is a fine line on the trim and planes to get maximum speed. She'll dance all over if you pick the planes up too far... which you already know :)

I have run and experemented with 2 of my friends 32s. The best thing to do is call Mike at Hulls prop. or me and Ill hook you up with his no. Put a paire of 5 blades on it. You wont beleve the dif. Tom 239-340-0796.

What size and what rotation worked best ? I have access to 25- p-5s for trial, are your friends running more h.p.? I'm worried I wont be able to turn them enough rpm with these stock motors. Thanks for the number I'll be calling

Thay both had 496/425s The one ran 85.2 The 5 blades ran the best turning out.

underpowered is the biggest problem.

Owned one for 6+ seasons. Ordered the boat and ran it 1 season with carbed 7.4s (300 prop HP)...it was a handful.
Dropped in a pair of 350 prop HP carbed 454 Mags and bingo! 6-7 MPH GPS and a whole new boat to drive! Gained 400+ RPM and 2 inches of pitch, from 25 to 27 Hydros. That should tell you alot about what the hull thought of the added power.
Still not a rookie piece...but man...just another 100 HP total (and the associated torque) really woke that thing up.
Under the power "breakpoint" you're fooled into using too much drive trim at any given moment to hold the nose up (on the pad) ...no good for handling as it's artificial and wants to "fall off".
The place to start is with enough power to get the boat to stay nose up and on the pad without overtrim. ;)

I bought this boat from its original owner, I wish I had done more research on this model prior to buying, however the learning curve has been somewhat fun. Thanks for your input

1200 TO 1300 HP and a good set of drives and my 320 is a blast to run,the boat is still a drivers boat but the more HP the better the attitude in all water conditions.It is like a 22 on steroids and alot of fun.

Has anyone tried replacing the short 280 tabs with longer ones?
