22' Velocity
3 Attachment(s)
22' Velocity - 2003/1985 with a 2003 Mercury 250xs. This Steve Stepp original was totally restored in 2003 as a labor of love. I am a huge Velocity fan! The boat was purchased in 2001 as a low hour original V100 boat. The boat was in great shape, but in need of an updated look. Every time my wife looked at it, she said she heard the “Miami Vice” theme music. It was completely stripped, flipped over and the bottom was painted white. Then flipped right side up and new custom paint was applied using the original color scheme in a tribal flame pattern. The front seats are out of a Skater and the back seat and side panels are original and have been covered with silver carbon fiber vinyl with black piping. A new Pirelli floor was installed and I also have red carpet for the floor. The boat was completely re-rigged in 2003 with new sea-star pro steering, Bob's hydraulic jack plate, new gages, battery. The stereo system includes Clarion CD player and 4 6”x9” speakers. The boat runs 80 mph with a 28p Bravo. There are less than 100 hours on the engine.
The boat is meticulously kept and stored in a climate controlled warehouse. Trailer is included. Why am I selling? I’m ready for a bigger Velocity and a new project. Asking price: $25K or obo Feel free to call or email me for any additional information. Thanks, Tom 727-542-9628 [email protected] |

$20k complete This boat is a steal @ this price. |
what type of props u are using for top speed and jack plate
thanks and regards velocity owner 22 |
For an out board 22......
The 22 likes a chopper prop for top end. HP to Pitch Ratios= 250hp 22"-24" 3 blade 300hp 24"-26" 3 blade 350hp 26"-28" 3 blade 400hp 28" mazco RE 4 (4 blade) The 22 in post #2 spun the mazco re 4 8000 rpm with the prop shaft about an 1/2" below the pad. hence the name Vicious. The chopper suffers a little at the low end. I also ran a omc raker 28" it was a great all a round prop. if you post your specs I'm sure the VOG guys can point you in the right direction |
I was just looking online and was reading about Steve Steep. I read that there was no 22 mabe by Steve the smallest was a 26 called the summer squall which i have. How is this possable on a 22?
|
Sick, Steve designed and built a 22 probably before he even thought about building a 26!! They were also made by Regal. He is still building them now.

I don't he ever made a 22 under the Thoroughbred name, which might be where the confusion is. But prior to Thoroughbred (and also after), Steve and Regal built the 22 under the Velocity name.

Crazy, this thread is over 5 yrs old....I just bought this boat last night...I cant believe its the same boat. It now has a 94 2.5 245hp and has been repainted, its a little rough, but I think I can bring it back. Any other info on this boat? The guy said it was originally shipped to the bahamas and had twins on it...I dont know. It has a 24p tempest 3 blade prop on it now and runs about 70. Would love to hear more! Thanks guys, Jamie

Had a lot of fun in that boat!! Pat |
Hey Z- thanks, yes, I did speak with Tom about it....crazy history!!! I will be working on it for a few weeks before I drop it in...I just cant believe that it is the same boat. It needs some tlc, the paint job they put on there is sort of odd....he kept saying it was gel coated and not painted. You can see pics on craigslist (miami). I will keep updating as I go through it, hopefully I will learn how to post a pic!!!
Spicey- thanks, it will be cool. I got out of the speedboat scene about 7 yrs ago....I had a 28 bertram baron knock off with twin 454/500hp that was absolutely mint that I sold to get back into fishing. I almost want to bring it back as some sort of c or s class resto/retro look from when they used to run them in the 80s. Just cant find too many pics of the 22 in race attire!! |
A boat living in the Bahamas gets beat up pretty bad. A friend of mine kept his boat in grand, with the locals "taking care of it". Not pretty.

Still messing with this boat....have added all new gauges, a 250efi with a 23 pitch laser prop. It's a 25 inch shaft, chine walks like crazy and can't get much more than 65 out of it at 5800rpm. Get slots of looks and thumbs ups etc, runs great in the ocean, but was expecting to see 75 mph...tried a 26 pitch trophy plus 4 blade, but couldn't pull the rpms, thinking about a 25 pitch fury and 20in mid. Boat has nice kiekafer tabs...need help, anyone!?
|
Still trying to figure this boat out.....a 250xs pushed it to 80, my 250 efi can barely do 65....and chine walks like crazy!
|
You have to get a 20 inch mid section for starters(a offshore mid is better, single piston). You should have a low water pick up. Put on a 4 or 5 inch jack plate. Run the boat and jack the motor up till you start loosing water pressure then drop it back down a little. I have one with 2-2.5 off shores, these boats are a handful to drive. But with the right set up and enough seat time they are the badest small boats out there. Try a cleaver prop, they work well on these boats.

this boat did 64mph with that old yamaha, 20" mid, hydraulic jack plate and needed trim . no chime walk, your dragging your 25" motor
|
It does sound like the motor may be too low. Have you measured the height of the propshaft in relation to the bottom of the pad?
