Prop slip numbers

What kind of prop slip numbers is everyone getting with thier 280's? I think mine is kind of high and I can't figure out why. With my labbed 26 hydro I was getting 14% and I just put on a stock 27 hydro and I'm getting 18% with major blow out getting on plane. My 26 doesn't blow out at all.

Re: Prop slip numbers

Hey Frank,

My 280 is right there at about 13.5 -14% slip with a labbed 26 hydro with chewed up edges. What are you triming to on your indicator? I'm usually down around 7 or so. What did that 27 do for RPM's vs the 26 and did you see any speed?

Re: Prop slip numbers

I actually get 100 more rpm out of the 27 and about 3 or 4 mph slower.

Holy Chit. If trimmed my drive down around 7 I think it would fly. :drink: Dots show my trim & tab settings. Tabs at 2-1/2 and trim at 5.

Re: Prop slip numbers

Frank,
I can run alot more than 5 on my boat,I can trim way out but I do not know if the Imco Drive trims alot different but I do know that the drive length and cavatation plates are alot different.Try trimming it until it starts to lose bit and back down a little and see if it gives you any performance value and also take a straight edge and see where the drive is at different settings and make sure that the indicators are working properly.

Re: Prop slip numbers

With my worked hydro I don't hardly trim past neutral for my best speed, but with the stock 27 I have to trim the snot out of it to get anywhere. I think I'm going to send out the 27 to get some work done to it.

Re: Prop slip numbers

Hey Frank instead of sending out your props why dont you just buy my boat and be done with it,you can go 100 plus and not change a thing, what do you think.PS Did any of you guys get any running shots during the Fun Run of my boat, just curious.

Rick,

Most 280 or 260 owners that I talk to get down to around somewere between 6-8. I assume 2 on your tabs is about level? Try picking them up all the way. I can tell a difference on mine. Just a little harder to keep it on the pad, but less drag.

Should I be taking out a insurance policy before I try this. I'll give it a go tonight.

Hold the phone!!!!

You guys keep playin around with these little ear blades.

I've played around with a few different blases. The Bravo runs so much better all around then the hydro.

hole shot is better...cruise is way better....I might have lost 1 mph top end if that.

Never i mean never any blow out.

+/- 600hp, 1:1.34 ratio, 26"pitch, 5200rpm, 82/83 mph

Re: Prop slip numbers

Tabs we don't need no stinking tabs.

Unless its big water keep the tabs all the way up.

TR I think slip should be 10% to 12%. These are big singal engine boats 6-8% is probably not realistic

Re: Prop slip numbers

Hey Vicious boy, what do you think my slip ratio is.I do agree with Steve, you guys are stuck on the Hydro, try the Bravo blades I think you will like them alot better, better hole shot, better cruise speed at less RPM and never any BLOWOUT.

Re: Prop slip numbers

I have a 28P Bravo right now. Steve is correct it does perform better than the hydro. BUT.......It also mades the boat AZZ end feel very heavy. In 2-3 footers it makes the boat plow through where the Hydro allows you to skip across and we all know how awesome that feels. The bravo make me feel like I'm in my old Baja Outlaw. I'm staying with the Hydro and staying on top of the water. :D M2C

Anyway TURNERRD,

I tried what you said and...........It worked. Pulled my tabs set the drive to 7 and picked up 100 rpms. New plugs, 3/4 tank of gas, slight chop, GPS speed was 82.1. Not bad. Thanks...... I might be able to take Steve yet. :drink:

Yeah Yeah.....Since our dyno's & speeds are about the same it would be all driver. Unless there are 6 footers. Then Brian would win. :evilb:

Franky you need the old sticker for the dash....

sit down shut up and hold on

I hope it wasn't the wife

" If I start to lose...your out one at a time untill I reel em back in" :D :D :D

As far as running you guys. It's all good fun. If I have what it takes to get by you guys...that's cool but some guy with a bigger wallet is gonna check out on me. But it's still fun.

Steve, It's all good. Let's plan something better next time. Drinks are on me. The whole Velocity owners are a awesome group of people. Unfortunately I missed out on a lot at the fest of which I apologize. Hope to see everyone soon. What's going on for Labor Day?

You'll have to ask him. We ran but I'm sure that he had more because I had a little. Plus he had the kids on board. Safety first. :drink: Yeah it's more like Bravo -vs- Hydro. not motor -vs- motor. :D
