The guy who bought mine put in mild sc540's , and claims to still be getting over way over 100mph conditions permitting . I had #3's and center stering , even more fun to operate with 2 people . I loved that 30' , she broke a lot of hearts . :evilb:

Update:
New items arrived. Air conditioner, drive stands, shore power recepticle. For the wife. Now for me. Headed to alum. fabrication shop on the 20th to build the first all aluminum engine hatch I've ever seen. Ordered two Teague scoops that will have built in pans sealing scoops to carbs. Real ram air. Also adding power lift. Love eBay. this is gonna be a cool boat if budget holds! |

I'm told by a previous owner of THIS boat that it too had big block turbos and ran in the teens. Coincidence? There aren't many of these things out there!?

Pulled Drives / Tabs
Getting things pulled apart for the glass repairs on the stern. Got some drive stands and they are awesome. Very good investment.
Wolverine Tabs are MASSIVE. https://sites.google.com/site/mitche...=320&width=238 https://sites.google.com/site/mitche...=239&width=320 https://sites.google.com/site/mitche...=239&width=320 |
Hatch Progress - 1st setback!
Well the biggest progress to date is actually getting this thing out in the sun for the first time in about 8 years! We got to about 2 miles from the shop where we are building the hatch and I felt a vibration. The road? I thought so for about a minute but then realized I better pull off. As I looked in my passenger mirror to check for a spot, I saw one of my wheels rolling down the side of the road :poopoo:
I pulled off to find the brake had come apart somehow and busted the drum, then completely sheered off all five wheel studs. I started walking down the highway to retrieve what might be left of the wheel and tire and up it came... rolling nicely down the side of the road right to me! Kind of funny actually. Had it gone onto the busy highway, no telling what might have happened. All said, it was a center wheel and the bolts holding on the leaf spring just rubbed the ground. I was able to finish the trip to the shop on 5 wheels! A LOT of stress but we made it. Now to build the hatch. I am also going to buy 4 new complete brake setups. https://sites.google.com/site/mitche...=239&width=320 https://sites.google.com/site/mitche...=239&width=320 |
Scoops are gonna look cool...
Anyone else ever build a completely aluminum hatch? I think it is going to be functional and light!

Make sure they are strong enough to walk on or it's a pain

I got the Teague scoops.

I made mine out of PolyMetal. (Alum skin sandwiching urethane) Squair tube alum frame under with the exact same scoops you have. Works well.
|
Heres noda1 in his old 30'er Saucin' it up making it look easy, for you guy's needing lessons this is how it's done.

Frame starting to take shape. Decided to make scoops removable so easy to fix when someone breaks them!

Buy a good hood scoop, I can stand on mine with no deflection or movement. Mine are fiberglass not the cheesy ABS plastic scoops.

Keep going man. Very inspiring. I had my 81 for years. It teaches how to drive.

Hatch Updates!
Making progress. See pics of this one-of-a-kind alum. hatch!
Also, all brakes and bearings replaced, trailer rewired (temporarily) and new winch and support added to trailer. Didn't plan on all this work just to move it around! https://sites.google.com/site/mitche...=315&width=420 https://sites.google.com/site/mitche...=238&width=320 https://sites.google.com/site/mitche...=239&width=320 https://sites.google.com/site/mitche...=239&width=320 https://sites.google.com/site/mitche...=239&width=320 |

|
they look good!! Took 15 years off the look of the boat. IMO
|
The hatches look great , what drives are on the boat now ? They look like 2's or 3's maybe

The trs should hold up well against the 600's . If they don't , Konrad makes a replacement drive that bolts right up . There are also plenty of good deals on #3 set up's but , I'm pretty sure you would have to change the drive height . Fun boats to drive :drink:

Hey underdog, you ever run that thing at Salt Fork? I grew up on that lake! Not too much room to let that beast loose though! Lots of no wake.
Looking forward to your project. Maybe we can get in a run together when you get her done. Here is some stuff and pics about out boat(needs updating but...) www.30velocity.com Mark |

Quite a bit as it's my closest unlimited HP place to play. Only 45min drive. Very pretty lake, nice beach, clean water but no bars... Is a lake really a lake w/no bars? You can only look at so many trees... Buckeye Lake is my favorite as it has the opposite of all the above. Party Lake:) 1hr drive.

Thanks:) Now that it's getting winter and I'm stuck up north this year for most of it I"ll try to get the site up to date while it's snowing. Pulling motors to fix a nagging oil leak this winter and check-up. I just like them sitting in the shop better than in the weather.

Movement....XT Innovations has her.
The guys over at XT Innovations are in possession of her. Starting with fitting the dash and back seat along with custom bolsters. Now it comes down to how far I can go before the $$$ runs out!
Also received my custom Lightning headers. They are dry to the tip. Should be loud! They really look nice. I've collected MSD Digital 6 Plus ignition boxes, billet alum coils, Bravo 1 Props, etc... |
Velocity 100 Logos?
Dave already has these over at XT Innovations but here is what I was thinking. This hull was the first vee to break the 100mph barrier in 1979. To be clear, I'm not suggesting it was this actual boat, but Steve Stepp designed this hull and broke it before selling mine in 1980 so it wasn't too far from the original.
I also don't think I will ever hit 100mph, more like 80 but who knows. I've found some pretty stout 650hp small blocks I'm building now and after seeing how fast Still Crazy goes, you never can tell. I was thinking it would be a cool tribute and a historic reminder about the Velocity tradition to put this logo on the rear of the bolster seats. What do you guys think? If so, black lettering or outline for the 100? https://sites.google.com/site/mitche...ocitylogos.jpg |
nice project! keep up the good work!

Progress - Headers and Bolsters
Dad and I got the headers fitted. Still haven't cut the 6" holes in transom. Yeah, 6 INCH. A little stressful.

awesome resto!

Awesome so far, keep the pics coming!!

If anyone is at the velocity shop and can take some pics of the blue 30 getting redone I would greatly appreciate it. I grew up with that boat and would love to see it reborn.
Thanks Jack L |
