Info on 280 500HP

Can anyone enlighten me as to the actual speed I can expect out of a 1999 280 Velocity with a 500HP motor? I am looking for either GPS or Stalker Radar numbers not the dream-o-meter. What prop was used? Labbed? As stated in another thread I will be taking delivery of said boat at the end of the month. I just sold a Baja 272 that had a 500HP with upgraded heads (Edelbrock Marine Rectangle Port) and the boat ran 72 on GPS. My hope is that the new boat would run at least 75, thoughts?

Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the info guys, I will post real nmbers once I splash the boat. A buddy of mine has a 27 pitch Hydromotive 4 blade that was labbed by Mike Hall, I am going to give that a try as well and if it works good I will be getting a duplicate just like it.

The only concern I have is that the boat has a low water pickup Bravo on it and I hear that they can scrub between 1-2 miles an hour. I have heard people say you should be able to drill the holes for the side pickup where they normally would be on a standard Bravo and plug the lower holes (Or add a nosecone to cover them) however I havent heard of anyone who has actually done it so I am leery; although I don't like the idea of 1-2 miles an hour being lost either.

At some point I will probably upgrade the heads to AFR 315's and put on CMI's so I can run high 70's but that may be a year away.

We'll see.....

I have a Hydro 26 that was pitched to a 27, and labbed by Throttle Up, then re-tuned by Halls. If it works, you can have it for 300. I have only tested with it.

My 2001 28 with a 500 efi will run 78 mph light with one person. It's not all about top end, it's the ability to go fast when the water isn't smooth that makes Velocitys excell...

imax,

Thanks for the info, what prop are you using to otain those speeds? Is it labbed? If so, by who?

Thanks!

Xcess,

I'm spinning the 26 Hydro that came with the boat, It's had a little work done by Mark at Long Island Propellers, mostly clean up and balance work. It didn't do much for the top end but gave me a more consistant bite.
