difference between 260 & 280

What is the difference between the 260 and 280? Why did the 280 get dropped? Is the 25'-11" length on the 260 include the swim platform or with out it? Any infor you can give me on the 260 I would appreciate it. Might look into a 2006 260.

Thanks.

VelocityRick 05-21-2007 01:55 PM

Yes that does include the swim platform. The 280 is a much better balanced boat. I guess it depends on where you are going to boat, and if you have the money to buy a 2006 260. I would buy a slighty older 280.

The 260 is 24'2" in length without the swim platform. I think they are the same from the windshield back. The bow is longer on the 280 and I think it has a sink. I agree with Velocity Rick. It depends where your going to be boating. If your boating on the Ocean or the Great Lakes go for the longer boat. If not go with the 260 its lighter and faster. Go for the full hydraulic steering and the nice Dana tabs on either one of them and you can't go wrong. Ohh forgot to mention lots of Horsepower :D

Thanks for the info so far. I boat in an inland lake but we would like to go to Michigan and Lake Erie maybe for like weekend trips. The one I'm thinking about is the one in the classified in NY. the price seems like a good deal.

Nice boat, but I think that you will be disappointed with the speed of that boat. I know that it says 70+, but realistically it's going to be more like 67-68.

STUCK 05-22-2007 01:49 PM

I know this will sound funny to most of you guys but if it doesn't do 70 that's fine with me. Yes I would like that but on Lake Wawasee you have to be carfull because boats are going in all direction plus with our 6 and 4 year old going wot isn't that important even thou my daughter like going fast. Beside my Baja tops out around 50 on speedo so anything over that is a plus.

Hahaa.............You say that NOW.

STUCK 05-23-2007 06:20 AM

I know I say that now and I'm sure after a few time running wot I'll want to go fater. My 4yr old daughter nows when she see's another boat going past us that she will grab on to the grab bar because dad is going to go wide open just to try and keep up. She is going to be our speed junkie.

The VR-1 replaced the 280. It is 28'6" including the integrated swim platform. I just happen to know where there is a nice one available..... :)

STUCK, Met you last year at the sandbar on Wawasee I think?? Purple, Yellow 280. If your seriously looking let me know. 280 is a great boat for Wawasee and a better choice IMO. Save you a trip to NY and stay local. I'm ready to move up. I think???

STUCK 05-25-2007 06:16 AM

You are correct they I remember seeing your boat. I'm waiting to see when the guy interested is going to see my boat. He is from NY I think and the marina is going to meet him in Clevland I believe.

What kind of price are you going to ask and how many hours are on your boat? You can pm me or send me any e-mail at [email protected] if you like. Depending on the price I might be interested.

I know some of the older 260's were a true 26 ft. (Not counting the swim platform) What year did the 260 become a 24 footer?

Shore Thing 06-04-2007 07:38 AM

1996 i believe.

Revelocity 06-04-2007 09:54 AM

The 24' was introduced in 1998 and the 260/280 naming convention was rolled out over the next year.

Revd Up 06-14-2007 12:00 AM

So the 260 from 1998 and newer are 24 ft. ers. Was just curious. Been measuring all my buddies boats. Seems like everyone measures a little different. I kinda like the real deal measurments.

nashpda 06-14-2007 12:29 AM

I guess I cold take my 1997 26' that's now a 28' add a point on the front of it and call it a 30'. Oh wait, I think another boat company has already done that. It starts with f and ends with ountain :evilb:

Sick Stinger 06-14-2007 12:25 PM

Nash im not touching that one with a ten foot poll but ill put it this way im not disagreeing

FlashPRace 06-15-2007 05:05 PM

All I can add is my 260 runs better than my 30 Scarab, and way more efficant than the 26 Corsa I raced for a few years.
So I can only wonder what a 280 or a VR1 runs like.
