260 top speed?

Just curious how fast people have got the 260 to run with what engines? I just put a 700 hp 496 in mine. Still working on dialing it in but its pretty fast.

Velocity Tom 12-14-2007 03:01 PM

I have run a bunch, The one my friend has will run 72 with a 496 375 hp and a 26 bravo.

007joe 12-14-2007 05:17 PM

2006 260 with a 375hp merc 496 ran 66.8 (gps) with 3 people and lots of gas.... how fast have you gotten yours so far?

Velocity Tom 12-14-2007 05:23 PM

We ran 70 with 2 people and 1/4 tank. hitting the rev. lim. at the toys for tots run 2 weeks ago I had a 260 with a 310hp 454 back in 1998 and it ran 66 mph. I think the fastest one witha 375 hp was Bill applejuice mixions it ran 73 with a hot rod 27 hydro. by Mike at hulls.

I think I have Bill applejuice mixions old boat. Best of 86.7 usually 82.5 to 84.6 depending on conditions.

Velocity Tom 12-15-2007 09:12 AM

Thats ok !I have something for ya next year. All the machine work is done. Im picking up the blocks today.
Bill mixions boat was a 260 with a 496 375 hp.

Revd Up 12-15-2007 09:52 AM

Did Bill live in Ft. Meyers on the river? Purple , yellow, orange graphics? Wrote articles for Poker Runs America?

Velocity Tom 12-15-2007 10:41 AM

No Bill lives in orlando. I know who you are talking about but I cant rem. his name.

Revd Up 12-16-2007 10:33 AM

I bought my boat from Bill Jennings. He lives in Ft. Meyers. The boat used to have a 375/ 496. He wrote a review on it in Poker Runs America magazine in 2005. Volume 8, Number 8.
Says it Ran 74.3 in the article.

Guess I had the wrong Bill. Saw you were in Ft. Meyers and thought it might be the same Bill.

PMT2800 12-17-2007 10:18 AM

I hit 78.2 on gps with 4 adults, full tank of gas, and flat water. I was only half trimmed out, 3/4 throttle and bouncing off the rev limiter. I need to shorten my drive and lower my gear ratio.

Revd Up 12-17-2007 11:00 AM

I would estimate 89-92 after you get it dialed in.

I would stay with a 1.5 gear ratio and install a taller prop.

Linster 12-18-2007 12:04 AM

There's a guy on the Rappahanock river in Tappahanock VA that has a 540 10-71 blower that ran 112MPH at a radar shoot. That was on racing gas and a lot of boost. Boat set very well, but I would not want to be in at that speed.

velocitykid 12-18-2007 08:41 AM

thanks for the plug linster, i would be glad to give you a ride, its really not that bad. time for specs 540ci with 10-71blower iron heads 9psi boost ,1.36 gear with 34pitch bravo, 6400rpm, top speed so far 113mph on radar

Sick Stinger 12-19-2007 07:27 AM

hey mike you ran by them but how about by me(dont forget you did help me dial this in haha)

bulletbob 12-19-2007 10:51 AM

Whats your monster running Stinger? How do you like the boat now? I really enjoy mine and got to see some of mikes handy work at Palatka. Looking forward to coming up to Norman next year and hope you guys come to Murray. If you think those NC boys are fast on the water try keeping up with them on I-95. Those boys roll!!!!

Pat McPherson 12-19-2007 11:30 AM

Hey Guys,
How fast will my new to me 26/28 Velocity run with a basically stock 502MagMPI?

Sick Stinger 12-19-2007 11:59 AM

Bullet pretty happy with it. Cant complane as of right now. I do like the fact that all i can hear is blower when im running along (although i had no hatch when i was running last year). When i did run though it was a great run put about 50 miles on here and 2.5 hours. I recieved my prop after i put it away for the winter so i will see what happends next year with the 34p labbed. When you do come up this way lets run. Like i said before there are NO Tbred/Velocitys next to me so im a loner. Im going to NC this year sometime, going to make plans with mike to check out the velocitys he has built cant wait.

Sick Stinger 12-19-2007 12:01 PM

Pat from what i know and have heard and seen low to mid 70's 72-74 max but i learned ther hard way about chine walk with theses and im still a very newby keep a hold of that wheel

velocitykid 12-19-2007 12:05 PM

never been to the dyno but i think i'm running 1000-1100hp
a friend in northern va had his engine dynoed by sonny leanard and he made 980hp. we both have very similar setups in 260 velos and the best he could get his to run was 108mph

Oh Deere 12-19-2007 01:08 PM

My 2000, 260 with 454 Mag MPI, Arazona Speed and Marine EFI upgrade, Eddie Marine exhaust. I am guessing 425-440HP ran 74-76 GPS, with no handling issues. Tabs and Hydraulic steering too.

Pat McPherson 12-19-2007 02:23 PM

Thanks for the info guys.
My 1999 28 Velocity is the same length as the older 26 right?
The newer 26 is smaller then my boat right?
Confusion with including the swim platform or not I guess...
So my boat should top 70 with the 502Mag.

Sick Stinger 12-19-2007 03:51 PM

Pat See 70 Of Course

Revd Up 12-19-2007 11:56 PM

Have any of you guys done any bottom work? What kind of results?

velocitykid 12-20-2007 08:02 AM

the bottom of my boat was straight from the factory, but i have sharpened all of the strakes on the bottom and squared off the back edge of the hull. i originally saw no differance in speed but i have set up another 260 velo with basically the same engine and drive combo and to date i have driven his boat to 109mph. the only other thing i have done to my boat that i have not done to his is the bottom, i have checked his for straightness. the x dim on his boat is also .25in lower than my boat so that could be the addional drag slowing him down. just my .02

velocitykid 12-20-2007 08:08 AM

i have also found that wax on the bottom of the hull tends to scrubb off speed because it grabs and holds the water, i use polish (3m for ex) to keep mine clean, a little more work but im looking for top speed

bulletbob 12-20-2007 09:51 AM

Stinger how fast have you been so far? I am running in the high eighties with new motors that are finally breaking in. The chine walk on my boat with twins is minimal. The hull likes chop to free up the hull. It's definately a drivers boat, but, if I wanted something easier to drive I would have bought a cat. The kittys bore me though even around 100.Talk about blower whine. My twin 280s' sitting above the transom scream!! Hope to meet you and hyper sometime next year. Norman would be ideal! Merry Christmas to all!!!!

Sick Stinger 12-20-2007 11:08 AM

Hey Bob, Motor isnt fully broken in yet. Ive only taken it to 70 (with the new motor). I havent even made boost with it yet. best the motor saw was about 4K. The best my boat saw with my 509/675 h.p. was 81.7 that was also supercharged with a B&M 250 twin 750's. From talking to a few people this should see mid to high 90's if i can maybe break the triple. I have dyno sheets of 930 h.p. so next year ill bring it out screaming

Sick Stinger 12-20-2007 11:09 AM

Bob my 1st run is going to be Block Island with Remedy, Air Time, and who ever else wants to come.

I hope to put in in the next week or so and get some GPS #s' as the motors continue to turn more rpms. I am at 7200 and still in two(twins) pieces. You northern boys stay warm! Merry Christmas!!!

1HYPER1 12-20-2007 10:18 PM
