2000 26 Velocity questions

I am looking at picking up a 2000 26' with a 454mag mpi. Couple quick questions before I seal the deal. I am expecting 70 mph or so, is this correct? Anything I should look at closely on the hull or transom? Is the boat really only a 24' boat. Thanks guys should have it in 2 weeks or so.

68-70 is about right with a mag. I have read alot on here about Velocities having moisture in the transom so you may want to look at that. The boat is 24' without the swim platform. Where is the boat located?

The boat is in Tennesee. It has no tabs on it or hydraulic steering so I am hoping that there is not a moisture problem. It seems the older ones may have been more problematic but maybe I am wrong.

I have never seen a moisture problem first hand and there are 8-10 Velocities in my area from different year models, but after reading about it on here I just keep an eye out for it. If you have any pictures of the boat, some members here on the board might be familiar with it and can add some insight. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the input. The boat has a yellow hull with purple graphics.

70 MPH is a resonable expectation and I agree the lack of through hull fittings minimizes potential issues. The moisture issues were prevalent in the mid 1990 boats - not the later models. You still need to be careful, like with any boat purchase, as you can never account for how the boat was cared for and potential human errors/accidents etc. during its life.
I'd inspect the edges of the running pad and the rear pad/transom edge as they receive the most stress. Inspect the inside transom, stringer engine mounts and inner hull surfaces as best you can. Of course the best thing to do is get it professionally surveyed if you have any doubts.

Good luck!

Do you know if the boat came from the ny/nj/ct. area? if so I looked at this boat previous to my purchase it had 70 hrs on it or so and seemed real clean, this was in april/may 07.the selling dealer dealer sold it to someone in the area you said. Ocean performance in old saybrook Ct. was the selling dealer. they are real helpful, you may want to call them being they have no interest in it now, they may give you some insight. if i remember correctly they, (Ocean Performance)touched up the hull on the starboard side near the transom. good luck.....

It is the same boat, the current owner told me it was a minor repair but I will check it out. I was the laminating manager at Sunsation for 5 years so I will be ok checking out the transom. I gave that dealer a call. Thanks.

If the boat was repaired at Ocean Performance, Dan likely did the work.

Sounds familiar, sold one a few years back to some close friends. Yellow gel hull with purple graphics, white top deck. They had some financial problems and the boat was repoed. There were some water issues with that one, was enough water in the transom that it froze and split during winter storage. Put up some pics, or send me a PM, I could go back and look up the serial number. I have seen it out there for sale a few times, but not sure where it is now. The one I am speaking of had a 454 Mag MPI, no tabs and no hyd steering. Damage was on the starboard side at the transom, right on the corner.
