The Pad

Hey guys,
Got my 26 in the water about two weeks ago and it runs great. I have about twenty hours on it now and decided to open her up. I ran it as hard as it would go and saw 76 on the gps. It runs good, but I cant seem to get it up on the pad this boat runs 76 and I dont even have to set in the drivers seat. I dont think that I am getting the boat up on the pad. Am I just lacking on power or do I need to try a differnet prop. Thanks for the help Nick

What power, what prop and what gear ratio, all contributing factors.

stoltz 07-08-2008 09:46 AM

The engine is a 415 horse 502 that has been modified to put out 500 horse. The prop that seems to work the best is a bravo one 24 pitch. The gear ratio is a 1.5. The other factor that I am running up against is that we are a 4500 feet and running in fresh water.

I'd say your right on with 76mph GPS at 4500' elevation. You may try a 26p B1 or 25p Hydro QIV to compare speed and handling.

I've only run my new to me boat for about 2 hours so far with one WOT blast mixed in. I saw 67mph at 4600rpm with a 26p B1, 415HP/502MagMPI.

Oh Deere 07-08-2008 08:07 PM

Sounds like you are on the pad to me with that setup and elevation.

I'd say your padded too.

turnerrd 07-10-2008 09:18 PM

Yeah If you are going 76, your definatly on the pad. Why do you think you are not? 24" seems a little low, but maybe not for your elivation. I turn a 27" with 425HP

For the fact that I dont have to drive the boat its the easiest boat I have ever driven. I can run the thing wide open and DOnt have to do anything but drink my beer.:boat:

Your doing fine, my 280m ran up to about 82 and started to chine walk due to cable steering, not hydraulic.

That thing should handle like a waverunner at the speeds your talking, don't look for problems where there are none.

Get another 200 HP and start making 100k boats look stupid!

And enjoy your beer...:cool-smiley-026:

i got a 260 (24') and mine starts chine walking in the low 60's

If you have cable steering, you need to upgrade or the chine walk will not stop.

It's from the inherent slop in the cable that causes it, with hydraulic all you have to do is apply more throttle and it's gone.

it's funny cause i just di a walk around on the boat and noticed some play in between the drive and the wheel, then spoke to a couple of people who said thats normal..... guess that's the next upgrade

Joe I will have you some extra rams when I get my imco boxes on. They are nice performance marine rams. My boxes have rams on them so I will have extras.

I think most of your slack is between the seat and the steering wheel.:evilb:VV

007joe 07-13-2008 09:18 AM

vector thanks!, lemme know about the rams........ your probably right about that slack.....

can't even come up with a good comeback...

damn i guess you can't fix stupid...

What rpm are you spinning the 24 pitch Bravo? You may be a under-propped unless 4500 feet elevation causes more power loss then I think it does. I do think that you are up on the pad at 76 mph. I am spinning a labbed 27 hydro 4 blade with a 502 mag with headers. On a good day with some chop I get 72-73 mph

A friend of mine used to race velocity's and said the 26 Hydromotive wasn best, I personally saw the best results from a labbed 28 Bravo.

Unfortunately, unless you have a dive mask and can get to Metro Beach in Harrison Township, you'll have to buy one.

Let the wife drive and that was that...

stoltz 07-14-2008 09:19 AM

The rpm is 5400 with the twenty four. I have tried a bravo one from the 24, 26, 28, 30, and a 28, 30 left handed prop. The elevation here is really a killer on engine power. Soon I will have the big motor here and the new drive so I will have to start all over agian. It has been fun getting to know the boat with little power how its time to wake her up:party-smiley-048:.

Pat,
What speeds were you seeing in the 24' Superboat with the same engine and drive?
Thanks,
Dan

Hi Dan,
My 24' Super would run 75mph any day of the week with a labbed 28p B1. The top speed I saw was 78 with a labbed 27p M+.

I am confident that once I've got my engine running right, (ECU issues) the Velocity will top out over 70...
