Help with prop selection - Velocity 410
 

Greetings All,
I'm rather new to this site (actually I read alot, but don't have the expertise to contribute much opinion)...

Anyways, I'm still fine tuning a 2002 Velocity 410 project and wanted to get some more opinion and expertise of what I should be trying for props......any feedback is greatly appreciated!

The boat was originally powered by 575SCi's with XR drives and 32 pitch bravo 4-blade props....... and supposedly hit 89mph from what the previous owner had told me. Upon freshening the motors, we (Mr. HP, Dean Gellner) made a few performance mods (heads, cams and intercoolers) that resulted in 770hp/780tq on the dyno at 5900 rpm with 6.5lbs of boost. The boat now reaches approx. 85-90mph relatively easy, but anything over 4800 rpm's doesn't yield any greater speed (props slipping worse than they should due to dings and tweaks). I'm reluctant to go too big on prop because I don't want to sacriffice low end and ability to easily get on plane (its a bar hopping pleasure boat weighing in at over 9,000lbs dry, not racer).

Ok, so here's my question........ I've gotten some very good guidance from boating and prop experts that feel the 32P 4-blade Bravo will be just fine with a lab finish and others have been telling me that a stock 32P 5-blade maximus will be better. Anybody/friends been through this type of learning curve yet?

How do the 4-Blade and 5-blade props affect bow/stern lift differently and what do the larger Velocity boats react best to?

First welcome to the velocity family. I will let the guru's help you on this one. I would call Velocity and see what Steve or Kenny suggest 407-321-1340.

This is actually my second velocity (had a blast with my 2002 320, but couldn't pass up this deal).

Cool, Mine is a 320 a 2003, got any pic of the 41' we love pic over here. You live close to big water I assume.

With all the extra power , I would worry that a 5 blade might add stress to the drives .

Thanks VV , Talked to him the other day ,he has lots of good stuff at a fair price .With the economy in the crapper I am waiting for a distress or blow out sale .Seems like my 4"s are holding up good .Can"t get past that a wet sump 6 is cheeper than a 5 .On a big V with almost 800hp I suggest a raked 4 blade to help with bow lift .Joel has a lot of experence with bravo drives on big V"s and would be a good one to talk to .His boat is in the classified section now .Notice that he is only running aprox 650hp with a 5 blade . He has built much more powerfull engines in the past .I figure it might have something to do how much the drives can handle . If you go easy on them , you will have less chance of failure.Boat has a great ride . Have fun ,Good Luck .

With those drives you can run 800hp and get a little crazy if you want to
