Idling Question
2 Attachment(s)
Need some more Help Fellas,
I've finally got my 260 up and running, but i'm having trouble with idling at low rpm's, basically the the engine will eventually cut out after a few feet when idling in gear around 1000 rpms or lower and i desperately want the boat to become more dock friendly..lol. Is there anything that i can do? |
Need more info, how fresh is the engine and carb. What are the specs on the engine.
|
basically, engine is brand new. only been in the water 3 times dust far. has hydraudlic lifters and performance cam, but i don't have the build sheet as yet, puts out 560hp with over 500lbs of torque at the prop, i believe it's the 415o holly carb. i currently running a 24p hydromotive, but will be moving to a 28 bravo soon.. engine builder has to open up the idle mixture adjustment screw and play with tht abit,
|
Set the idle with the idle screw so the engine doesn't stall. Get a vacuum gauge and install it on the intake manifold. Adjust your idle mixture screws untill you have the most amount of vacuum. You may have to back out the idle screw because as you adjust the idle mixture screws the rpm will increase. Set rpm to 1000-1200

am i adjusting all four of them, and all at one time or one at a time ands which one should i start with..
thanks |
start with the idle mixture screws in the front metering block then the rear and then the idle screw
|
Before you mess with the idle mixture screws I would pull the needle and seat and make sure there isn't any junk stuck in there. It only takes a grain of dirt. I ran into this problem when I ran new fuel lines.
|
thanks, will look at that as well
