Stringer pulling away from the hull
 

I was cleaning my engine compartment in my 260 today and pulled off one of those plastic covers on the floor board to take a peak inside. It seem the sringer is pulling away from the hull. Same condition on the other side. The resin at the bottom of the stringer directly under the motor mount is fractured for about a foot. The stringer does not seem to be rotted. It seems like it could be a common issue. I was thinking of coating that area with new resin to seal it and add strength. What do you guys think? I do like to ride a little hard in the rough stuff sometimes, Well its like they say if you want to play you gota pay.lol. the storry of my life

just resin is not the key. make sure it is not rotten. once that is done, grind the area so new fiberglass AND resin sticks and laminate 3 or 4 layers depending on what you are using like mat, rooving or else...

BUT FIX IT RIGHT !!!!

Thanks for the advice thats what im going to do, i drilled a few small holes in the string the wood was not rotten. So im going to do what you said and it should be good, i tell you what though it sure does look kinda weak in that area to be supporting a big block. glad i cought it before i did serious damage

if both stringers are pulling...i would be all about going over the boat with a fine tooth comb before I fixed anything..

WHY did they fail??????? sever flex? underdesigned? bad material?? Just throwing a couple layers of glass over amore serious problem could lead to much bigger problems.

What year is your boat?

It would help if you could post a photo(s)of the areas. It sounds like it will definitely need to be reinforced with layers of glass, and depending on area, may require lateral cross-bracing/gusseting for additional strength.

The boat is an 01, I ground the area and into the corner where is was starting to crack, and used west system epoxy, two layers of mat and two layers of rooving. I think my boat is a bit small for the water i run it in, and how i like to run. I get airborne quite a bit and dont think she can take it, Its like that picture VELOCITY VECTOR posted of him jumping that searay wake, that kinda crap happens to me at least once or twice a day when i take it out, i just make sure i wear my brown pants when i go out from now on,lol. :eek:im thinking i might put a set of k-planes on it, to try to keep it in the water. Or might just step up to a bigger boat. I love my velocity i just wish it handled the rough stuff a little better.
