Velocity 220 Speed
I AM GETTING READY TO DROP A 500HP IN MY VELOCITY 220.
DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT KIND OF SPEEDS TO EXPECT WITH THIS TYPE OF POWER IN THIS BOAT. I AM BEING TOLD IT SHOULD RUN IN THE MID 80'S. IS THIS REALISTIC? |
Mike, what did you have in it before and what speed were you getting? Years ago I had a Regal Velocity 23. With a 454 Mag I could do low 70s. With a Velocity 22 being lighter and less bow heavy I would expect at least low 80s and quite possibly better. You might want to talk to Scott at the factory about prop selection.

Padraid,
My boat is 1996 220 velocity. I am currently running a 454/330hp with a 26 pitch spineli 3 blade prop turning 4800 rpm. I am getting a solid 73+ mph on radar. With the new motor, I am thinking of a bravo 4 blade or a mirage?? Also trying to decide what type of headers to install?? Any suggestions? Mike |
Sounds like a sweet boat and the 500 should really wake it up!
I would guess that a Mirage would give you more bow lift then you need but maybe not. I used a Mirage on my 23 but the Regal had more weight and needed the bow lift. Check with the factory, I bet they are aware of other 22s with 500HPs. I have hasd good luck with Lightning Headers but I have not had a chance to compare with other brands. The Keith Eckerds are interesting and if I was doing it again I would look very seriously at them even though ther are a tad pricey. Let us know how it turns out and what the results are. |
Try one of scotts "from velocity"Labbed bravo's from the factory they are dialed in for the velocity hull specifically. and are around 500 bucks check out the end of the 280post.
