Velocity purchase

We are going to start shopping for a Velocity 260 in the 2005-2006 year range. Any problem areas that we should pay attention to? What would the price range be for these year boats?

Great boats! One thing you may want to consider is do you want the 26 which is called the 28 with the 2' swim platform or are you looking for an earlier 26' which is actually the 24 with the platform. The 2' difference makes a difference and you will easily grow into it. It also gives you a little different ride and generally more options with motors if you wanted to go beyond the 496 engine. I think there are more standard 525 packages in the 28. You may want to call Kenny at the factory I was just down their and he has (3). I think one was a 496, one a 502 and one a 575. They all looked like nice boats. Good luck with your search!! Steve

I have to tell ya. The 260 is a very nice riding boat, compared to other 24-26 boats. The 260 w/496 mag runs upwards of 70. The 280 & 260 both share the same cockpit, the additional 2 foot is up front in the cabin. The 260 is a 24' hull with a 2' platform and the 280 is a 26' hull with a 2' platform. I picked up my 2003 260 for $18k, granted it needed a quite a bit of cleaning and a few minor repairs, but it is a lot of boat for the money. There are plenty of 260's on boattrade.com. I have see them anywhere from $22k - $46k. Unless you are a speed freak the 260 w/496 mag is fast enough. Good luck on your search. When you find one, post picks.

No offence to the 24'/260 owners but I'd say the 26'/280 is a better value. The price tag for used boats given the same power is about the same and the speed difference is only 2-3mph. The 24' is not small enough to ski off so the only advantage I see is that if you don't want a big block, they run OK with a small block.
I'm quite sure the 26'/280 rides much better in the rough and for me that is huge when you have a young crew.
This is coming from a guy that would really like to down size to a boat in the 20ft range...
Good luck with your hunt.

None taken.....:drink:

Well like I said previously, the 260 rides better than "any other" 24-26 I have ever been in. It completly puts my Baja Force 250 to shame (I used to think it handled rough water good). I have already had my 260 in 6-7 footers with ease. I am sure the 280 rides a little better than the 260 especially at higher speeds....

Does Velocity offer a small block in the 260? I thought the standard power was a 496 mag for the 260 and a 496 mag HO for the 280.

I would rather have had a 280 myself, but there were better deals to be had on the 260, at least when i was looking. I miss all of the cockpit space I had in my Baja Force 250, the rear seat was ontop of the motor, not in front of it......But don't get me wrong I am not complaining, I love my 260 it will do fine for this season and maybe one more, but I see me stepping up to a 32 Velocity in the near future (in order to get a bit of my cockpit space back). One thing I miss as well are trim tabs. Never really used them much, but they are nice to have when you need them.

Hey bikinipet,

Do you have any pics of the 260 your looking at? ANy info on options? And if you don't mind posting the price as well (if not I understand). I like to see what other 260s are selling for and how they are optioned.

Nice Boat!

I went from a 24' Pantera to a 24' Superboat to my 26’ Velocity.
The Pantera and Superboat did well in the rough for their size but there is really no comparison to the Velocity. I had people tell me that the Velocity was not going to ride as nice in the rough because of the pad. Boy where they wrong; this boat handle great in the rough. Sure it is a deferent feel riding with a flatter attitude vs the way a straight V rides, but I’m used to it now…
Good Luck with the new Boat and we'd love to see more pictures...
