383 mag in a V 260

Opinions needed. I was wondering how a 383 mag 350hp will run in a V 260. Verses the 8.2' mag. Looking to repower my 260 again.

The 8.2 has 375hp if I am not mistaken, whicg is only 25hp more than the 350hp on the small block you a asking about. I would think the torque is where you would be at a major disadvantage. THe big block is going to give you the torque necessary to turn a 26p 4 blade prop, whicg will push the 260 to high 60's - low 70s. I highly doubt the small block will spin that prop. Plus a small block just doesn't sound as good either.....

My 496 mag has been rock solid. Since I bought the boat 2 seasons ago we have put around 400 hours on it with only 3 small issues. I had an alternator fail (my fault), the IAC valve needed to be replaced, and the water pressure sensor went bad. It has been the most reliable and efficent motor I have ever had. Fuel Mileage is incredible. We normally run the boat @ 3800-4200 rpm.

I would think putting a small block where a big block belongs, would only reduce reliability.....

thks again,

i purchased the boat with a 7.4l mpi, had reversion issues after a season or so, went to 560hp carb engine which has been nothing but trouble...motor runs good, but the idling characteristics i cant handle..it loads up fast and bogs down when i'm idling at low rpms, which makes docking, rafts ups in tight quarters almost imposible..so i'm thinking that i want to go back to the stock engine for those factors.. i olny have 40hrs on the motor and i'm ready to change it..also i don't have any marine mechanics that understand these types of motors to tune it properly..

but thanks again for the input..

If I were you I would look for a use low hour 496mag or 496mag ho.

stick the old school lesson. there is no replacement for displacement.

Don't know about the 496 but my 1998 502 mag EFI has been absolutely reliable. Turn the key and go. Only engine problem was with the power steering pulley. Cheap peice of plastic sh*t I would go with the cubic inches,

I would keep what you have and continue to look for someone , to tune it right.
