Velocity 260 Questions

I have a friend looking at the 260 in this ad

http://greenbay.craigslist.org/boa/2959452037.html

I had a couple concerns about this boat when he looked at it. Those being A)no trim tabs B) no hydr steering. With a 500hp single motor and speeds approaching 70mph I guess I am concerned about handling at those speeds. Does anyone have any input on this? Also if there are any specific things to look for other than the usual if he end's up deciding to purchase it? All input is appreciated.

Steve Stepp told me he would not put that much power in one without Hyd steering. That said you may check it may have had a motor change and yes it needs Hyd. steering , you can live without the tabs. I have both on my 280 and i would not be without them.

ok that boat is the same as a 280 , with it that age have the transom checked for rot

With that kind of power - the boat would have left the factory with tabs and steering. More modest powered 26's didn't come with them standard but you'll want both if you are frequently in rougher conditions. Not a problem to add them later if desired. Have a surveyor check out moisture in the transom and bulkheads as those years were more susceptable then late 90's and newer.

Thanks Guys.

That's a real good price. I would not be worried about not having tabs. I would be worried about lack of steering though. My 260 handles great without tabs, but I would not want that kind of power without the steering.

Don't worry about the tabs but I would add hyd steering. It willake the boat safer and much nicer to drive.

That sounds like a great price. I have both hydraulic steering and tabs and would want both.

boat looks good, the price looks great. speed seams a little off though, i would think mid to hight 70's. as stated above i would look at the engine to make sure it is a real hp500, as that boat set up as it is prob came from the factory with a 454mpi, mag, or 502. Just to make sure its not a carbed 454 with some shinny blue parts on it. If it is thats fine just as long as your friend knows what he is getting before he writes the check.

p.s. Ill buy the windscreen of it if he does not want it on the boat.
