Experience Running Hydro P5 or P5X on 22 or 230 velocity
I am currently running a 27p Mirage been lab bed l am thinking of picking up a used P5 or P5X 28p for my boat since i am getting new exhaust and believe I will be under propped after opening up my blower motors breathing. Estimate I can see 40 or 50 more installed hp with new exhaust and shed a 100 lbs weight. Currently running stock manifolds and mufflers. I realize I may have to get the 5 blade worked to get RPM to 5300 5400 range i am currently at, but have a couple of deals on either 5 blade prop I do not want to pass up?
The mirage loves full trim bordering almost over trim to run fast. Last time I had mirage redone I got some cup to limit blow out but lost some speed. Boat seems to run fastest low to mid 80s up there. Depends on the temperature fuel load and chop. Even fully loaded with fuel, people she'll do 76mph on a 112 degree day. Gotta love these boats. Question for a 230 velocity same hull as a 22; 454 with supercharger dyno hp 556, at 5600 bravo one 1.5 ratio. X dimension around 4 to 5 under the pad. What is better for the hull P5 or P5x? What should I expect for top speed? What would be a good pitch with new exhaust? Would I be better with the hydro Q1V or bravo? What whole be a good pitch for these choices. I am more likely to break my small shaft early bravo with more blades? Would like to hear some experience and pros and cons. |
The 5 blades are indeed much harder on your prop shaft and likely will slow you down as your x dim isn't a high one. First try a Hydro Q4 27 or 28 pitch given your x dim set-up and see how that goes. Good luck.

Anybody try buying their QIV directly from Velocity? They have an OEM for $750 and a velocity lab for $950. Any experience buying from factory what the extra $200 lab did for it and who they have do the lab? Do they run different grinds for the boat and HP? |
Mike from Hall propeller usualy does the lab work on the props and knows what Velocity likes. Go through Velocity not Hall's. Give Kenny at Velocity a call.
