Velocityfest 2014!!

So, since it's around 0 degrees in my neck of the wood's I figured I would start a thread to try and plan a Velocity gathering.
Notda1 recommended Great Oaks landing again as the central meeting point, and I couldn't agree more.
Now the dates are the biggest problem.
Zeimer will be up here between June 28th-July 6th, these are the only suggestions so far.
I would say no to forth of July weekend, but from the 27th-29th of June is good for me.
I was also thinking later in the summer so a few guys on here may have their boats all shaken down by that time.
So anybody have any suggestions or dates that work better than others?

I'd like to make it. Looks like a nice place.subscribed to the thread.

They also have a ramp for the boats that stayed there . The hotel books up fast that time of year , might want to check with them . We got a block of rooms and a special rate , real nice to me when I organized it before . :ernaehrung004:

Great Oaks is a great place. We actually stayed there a couple nights in 2012 when we were up last time. Facilities were great. Keep me posted and if it's decided to meet the weekend of June 28th, we'll definitely be there!

Bob,

My thumb is up and my arms out to the side. I have a gas card (with a limit), cooler full of your favorite beer, a chamois and some mcguires. Stop me if I go to far, and some...... :)

VELOCITYBOY 01-09-2014 09:05 AM

Sounds like it could be fun and wild

As it gets closer and once we firm up a date, keep me posted. I may have a connection up there at Great Oaks. Friend of the family down here in FL used to run GO and is good friends with the owner. ;)

How many boats do we need to make this work?

Revelocity 01-21-2014 10:07 AM

The post-2006 "Velocity Fests" have been simple get togethers at Great Oaks with no planned agenda so there wasn't a hard minimum boat count other then "enough" to make it worthwhile/desirable for people to attend.

notda1 01-21-2014 01:17 PM

If Ziemer is willing to look into availability of rooms and rates for those days at Great Oak , then he can post the information here for everyone . At that point people need to reserve rooms , that time of year they book up early . There are slips available , as well as the option of sleeping on your boat in the cove . Once the date is firmed up with the hotel , it would be time to start spreading the word . :party-smiley-020:

modvp 01-21-2014 01:51 PM

I'm interested and plan on being there.

007joe 01-21-2014 05:14 PM

Okay, So let's make it the weekend of June 28th, Zeimer if you can check on the availability and then we can work on a firm count. Once we have a preliminary count each individual can book for the time they want to stay. I am in one way or another, just hopefully have a boat to haul down with me.

Hope to hear something back tomorrow. The manager was out of town. ;)

ziemer 01-28-2014 02:42 PM

Haven't forgotten! Work's been crazy this last week. Got a message into the Manager and hope to get some updates by the end of the week. Stay warm up north!

007joe 01-30-2014 01:10 PM

Cool Keep us posted! Thanks!

ziemer 02-04-2014 03:10 PM

Ok, got some info from Brad up at Great Oak. Here's what they can do, and once we get a better count of boats, we might be able to do a little better on the rooms. Typical weekend rates for slips is $2.75 per foot, but if you stay in the hotel it drops to $1.50 per foot or $2.25 if you stay on the boat. Standard rooms on the weekend are $149 per night.

Our plan is to get into town from Florida sometime on Friday and most likely put in and run down on Saturday and spend Saturday night at GO. However, some may want to run down Friday and stay two nights.

Let me know what y'all think and once I have a better idea on number of boats and days, I can see what else Brad can do for us. ;)

I will need boat size, what day you'd check in and out, and if you need a room.
