hydro P5 or P5x?

Velocity people who are running 5 blade Hydros, are you running the P5 or P5X and why?

Thanks,

Padraig

I run the p5x on a 271 fastech, better hole shot and midrange without any loss up top.Right out the box great prop and good people to deal with no bs.This year I sent prop for a little better knife edge and some cup removed need 150 to 200 rpm more, also added pvs vents to slip prop a bit lots of bite.So far best speed 71gps but haven't been out worked all weekend the bird is clean and ready !

I run a P5X on my 290SC. It is less prone to ventilate while coming on plane, has less slip at cruise speed, tends to pick the bow up to keep the boat on the back of the pad for top speed, and is also more stable at top speed than the bravo prop that my boat came with. I haven't tried the straight P5...Hydromotive will give you a month to swap the prop if you want to try both.

Thanks all.
Has any one done a direct comparison between a P5 and a P5x?

Suntimme, what hp are you running?

Have you talked with Todd at Hydromotive yet? If not, Give him a shout and he can point you in the right direction. They are great people.

I have a Merc 525. At speeds around 70 and above is where I notice the improvement in stability. Trim the drive back a bit to let the prop pick up the nose, and most of the chine-walk tendency goes away. This is with a prop shaft
-mounted depth of about 3-1/4" below hull bottom.

Thanks all. OK I am as you may have seen looking for a new prop. Likely a P5 Hydro. Now I need to decide rotation. I am set up for right hand but notice many Velocity folk are running left hand. What are the pros and cons? I have the boat and the non stock 29 hydro is not working. Not enough RPMs and way to much slip (19-20%). Also it does not seem like it is carrying the bow enough although it may be because I am used to a 280. Tom at Hydro thinks a 27 P5 is in the ball park Will be buying one but need help right vs left rotation

Thanks,

Padraig

I ran a right hand 28p P5 on my 260 with a 500efi, I didn't run the prop long but it did work well.
