How many Velocity's are running the SCX / SCX4

I was curious how many Velocity's are running the SCX and if anyone has tried the SCX4 ? The SCX4 is basically a surface drive and I'm not sure how well that would work with a pad bottom ?

No takers ?

I recently talked to Wilson Custom Marine about a SCX upper w/SC lower vs running a complete SCX drive on a Velocity and the rule of thumb was that switching from a SC lower to a SCX lower generally saw a loss of 3-6 mph but could possibly be gained back by blueprinting.

We talked further about how the blueprinting process is done on lower gear cases and I was surprised to find out it's mainly done by hand because at any point a case can vary from 1/8 - 3/8's thickness and its extremely common for skegs to be crooked from the factory. He went to further explain how he just received two brand new #'6's from Mercury with horrible lowers. A lot of their condition leaving the factory depends on who is finishing them. He said that he can usually tell if someone new is finishing them or if it's a Monday morning or Friday afternoon. It just happens to be a job that has a lot of turn over and due to that, 50-60% off all lowers are greatly out of symmetry from the factory.

How much Hp you running through unit. I smoked my xr went with a scx upper with a sc lower running 760hp in a 29 velocity . i only lost lost 2 mph but have dependabilty now with over 100 hours no problem . I here if you put a scx lower you can loose 3-6 mph anything under 8-900 hp you wont need a scx lower .

I run an SCX upper 1.34 and 2" shorty SC lower on my 2005 VR1 with a Hydromotive 28" P5 and have seen 104 mph second time out, 638" single carb, no power adders. I sleep well knowing that drive package is on it. Steers effortlessly and looks so dam cool. Planes right off and pulls like a car. My 2002 VR1 ran 101 with an XR upper and 27" P5 with this same set up. Hard to plane off as well but keep in mind I changed the prop as well as the hull. So my 3 mph gain could have been related to other things. You cant afford not to buy an SCX upper if you have 600+hp and really drive the boat.

Have a 39 with scx uppers/sc lowers. 800 hp a side. Got tired of blowing xr's. Have run three trouble free seasons with setup. Didn't see any loss in speed

Hey SL , are your engines staggered and what speeds are you seeing ? Sorry to get off topic , had to ask :nicethread:

Side by side, best we've done is 100.2, Steve Stepp was driving. 96-98 consistently - light loaded.
