Looks great! I always wanted a 280, but had to go with the 260 to fit in my garage. Don't ever sleep in it, but would have liked to have that extra 2 ft in the bow.
The one advantage is the 260 Is lighter and I would think a little faster. :D |
Congrats on the purchase. The 280 was my first performance boat and man did she perform. She had twin 260 outboards on a porta bracket.

The 280 is a great all round boat that is very efficient. I'm pushing 700hp and I get 3mpg at 55mph, and I've hit 90. I added shore power so my wife and I can have some creature comforts on the overnights. We did an overnight on Mackinac Island in the fall and it was a little cool so I have a small ceramic space heater that works perfect. I have a laptop with a 17" screen and a cellular hotspot so we have TV or can play movies. We have traveled hundreds of miles in our 280 and we love it. It does get a bit rough out on Lake Huron but inland lakes are a breeze. I found out the hard way that it likes speed in rough water. We were in 2'-2.5' waves and going slow and getting pounded, so I went out by myself and hammered it and at about 50 it was super smooth. I've done 3'-4' at 60-65 in the right conditions and as long as the waves are evenly spaced and even heights it runs really well. I had to get a custom trailer with a swing tongue to get my 280 to fit in my garage, fits perfect in 31' of space. Good Luck.

Congrats!
I bought my 280 2 years ago and absolutely love it. It does everything I am looking to do with it pretty good overall. I have slept on it over night with my son on many occasions. Hopefully next year my wife and daughter will join us. It was one of the few performance boats in this size that had a/c. Please keep us posted on top speed. I'm curious what this boat will run with 700hp. Good luck! |
