Best bet would be Kenny, but if that doesn't pan out I think they were using Trimline ladders or something similar.
|
Called kenny. Windline is the manf. For anyone with the 2 step ladder, they actually make a 3 step which is what im going with.
|
Thanks for the info. I have the 2 step now. The third step would be nice. I wonder if the bolt holes are in the same location? I don't want to drill any more holes in my swim platform.
|
Lol. Ill let ya know ina week or so.

I changed out my ladder as well to a 3 step and Tig welded an angled stainless stop plate that the ladder rests on when down. This keeps the ladder out at an angle away from the platform making it real easy to board where as the stock ladders are almost at 90 degrees from the platform and my wife at a 120 pounds had issues in reboarding as well. Problem now solved, very easy re-entry for the wife and all the grand kids as well.
I bought my telescoping 3 step ladder off eBay, and I'm super pleased with it for the money spent ($80) compared to others at upward of $200+. If you want to use a ladder that doesn't fit your existing bolt pattern, mount a1/4" thk aluminum plate under the platform (paint or powder coat it to match) using the existing ladder holes and then locate your new ladder onto the plate with new holes in the plate only. |
Windline claims a lifetime warranty. Mine has a crack in the tube. Has anyone ever tried to gerry one warrantied?

My ladder should be here tuesday. If anyone is interested i plan to sell it in a few weeks. Long story short but im going with an aluminum platform and using this ladder/fiberglass platform for a few weeks till the aluminum one is done. Ill sell for less then you can buy it for. My loss your gain.
|
I love the look of a aluminum swim platform on a 280!

Me too. My wife crashed her car into my trailer which in Turn pushed my boat into the back wall of my shop ( yea i know)😡 So its either spend a bunch of $ to fix the fiberglass platform or spend about the same to go with an aluminum one. Just wish my ins co. Would quit dicking around and get this thing settled. Worst part is slumming it with a messed up platform for 4-5 weeks. Im gonna look like a rental boat i guess.
|
Good luck. Send pics.

Any pictures of the ladder all mounted up? I would like to see how it looks while stowed!
Thanks Jim I'll shoot a couple pics today, check back around noon. |
Here's a few pics while it's still in the rough (before polishing all the welds)

The 2" wide x 3/16" thk stainless plate welded onto the ladder really helped, it kept the ladder from going totally vertically down once weight is applied making it a real struggle to board mostly for the ladies. It now stands out on an angle and is a breeze to board.

Sorry no real update except that the motor lost oil psi and is currenly out of the boat at the builder, so the whole swim platform project is on hold. Ive talked to nick at alum metal fab and plan to get it ordered once i have a better idea of what the motor build is going to cost. It will be a winter project now.
I will say that the new ladder is much nicer but the holes do not line up at all. I made some bigger ss plates to hide the old holes since it was just temporary. It also has an angle to it so boarding is much easier. |
Bummer on the motor problem.

Yea it wasnt a great weekend. In a 48hr span we bought a new truck, wife lost her job, transmission went out of her car. Figured bad luck happens in 3's and we were done so decided to go boating and get some stress relief.....,,wrong. Lol. Its all good though, she already has a new job, transmission was easier/cheaper then i thought the duramax is beast, and motor is at the builder. What doesnt kill ya makes you stronger.....Life is good.

Bumping up this thread. I ordered my new platform on friday. Guessing it will be 3 weeks or so before i get it. I will be selling the slightly used ladder if anyone had interest. Used twice i think. 3 step. Windline. Angled out a bit to help with boarding. Figured i offer it out here to my velocity family first. Fyi, the bolt holes do not match , but if you are handy there are a couple solutions mentioned on this thread.

Can't wait to see the new platform on the boat. Always wanted to do that on my old 280.

Me too. Insurance is paying for it (money has been sitting in savings since the accident). Its pretty much a wash with fixing the old or going this route. I figure it will look better and should sound better too.
|
My buddy still want's it! Let me know how much and I'll pass him the info.
|
Id like to get $75 for it. That sound fair?

Its installed. Posted a sneak pic on the velocity owners page on face book. Eas rushing to get the boat in the shop before a thunderstorm so not a great pic.
|
Looking forward to the pics as well. Dumb question probably but can't find the Velocity page you mentioned... could you pass a link along?
|
Just do a search for velocity power boats on facebook. Should be the only group.
