Took apart a perfectly GOOD running boat...

FINALLY got time to start my project....

Got the 496 Mag HO pulled and the 555 set in....

Of course the exhaust doesn't line up..
On the starboard side the end of the tail has to come up about 2"...
The port side has to come up 2" AND go out about 1"
Thinking of making some wedges for the risers and elongating the holes some as I DON'T wish to modify the boat in any way...
The new engine is a tall deck with raised exhaust port heads.. guess the 496 risers are just really tall... ;)

Also need about another inch in front to fit the blower pulley.. I think I should be able to cut some of the bulkhead out as the back seat isn't right against it...

For the bulkhead cut-out, if it's practical you may be able to mount a deck plate on the front side of the bulk head cut-out for accessing the pulley bolts etc. in the future

Yikes that is tight in there. Didn't think it got smaller than my 25 outlaw engine bay. How much power you putting in there? What speed were you running with the 496? How fast do you think it will be going with this setup?

With the correct prop (labbed 28 Bravo I) this hull runs 72 MPH with a 496 mag HO... Best I've seen with my 5 blade was 69.9 one time, but usually tops out at 65 mph full of fuel & people...

MY new engine dyno'd at 630 hp N/A and 1020 hp on 9 lbs of boost... :)

So, my guestimate is 83 mph N/A & 105 MPH with the blower..

Going to be a little while 'till I have the $$ to upgrade my gimbal, add another steering cylinder, and buy a decent drive
but wanted to at least go a little faster this year, so it's going in N/A for now.. ;)

Those are pretty impressive speeds for a 29' with 496HO, good running hull. What's your X dimension or propshaft center to bottom of boat? I have a similar on going project with a 25 outlaw... just can't leave well enough alone.

Good luck with your project. I had a 280 with 798HP with a standard bravo one case with 1:36 ratio 30P stock 4blade merc prop and the best I ever seen was 96. 93 any day of the week, just had to be careful because the boat didnt like the big water of lake Erie sometimes. Good luck!! Very fun boat.

Would there be any benefit to using offshore engine mounts versus the standard mounts that are in the boat now?

Looks like a awesome start! That is a drawback to the 290/VR1 platform in the cramped engine compartment. With the 496HO installed you literally have about 2" clearance in front of the engine. I've been contemplating a Whipple setup on mine but don't have the 3.75" clearance. Keep us updated on the rear backrest/bulkhead mod.

Looks like there IS space between the back seat and the bulkhead.. The top of the seat screws to it but angles forward as it goes down. The bulkhead itself is a good 3/4" thick, So betting near the bottom there will be over 2" of clearance without modifying the seat..

Wish they HAD made it a bit bigger... I thought they put an Illmore in one at one time.. Must've had the bulkhead glassed in further forward

I had it that way on my Corsa since I had started from scratch..

The mounts in the Velocity are pretty stout and it's not like I'm out running the ocean or anything so hoping it'll be alright,... :)
